The day ended, and the next began. You couldn't remember the events of the week, having fallen into the unvaried routine of an intern. You stayed out of trouble, and Levi kept from bothering you.
On Thursday afternoon, you left Levi's last class of the day and departed from the academy, heading home to finally give yourself some free time. The evening came and went with no developments, only filled with homework followed by mindless relaxing.
Laying in bed, you watched the small digital clock in the corner of your phone strike 12 AM on Friday morning. I'm not usually up this late. I should get to bed soon.
Your social media browsing was interrupted by a phone call, coming from the contact you had finally saved the number of. Why's he calling so late?
"Levi?" You answered the call.
"(Y/n)."
"You're lucky I'm still awake. What do you need?"
"How are you at writing speeches?"
"Uh, I'm pretty decent, I guess. Not my strongest-"
"Good enough. I need a speech regarding prodigal abilities and how they compare to determination in the academic field."
"Huh?"
"Make it from my perspective, ideally. About fifteen minutes in length. Do some research and cite some sources."
"Wait, what? When is this due?"
"Tomorrow. I want it in the morning."
"No! Levi, that's unbelievable! I can't do that-"
"Quit complaining and start working."
"It's not enough time! I won't do it."
You heard Levi scoff. "If you don't, I'm dropping your internship."
Your heart sank. "I-I can't...you can't do that."
"I can. Get on it."
"Wait! Stay on the phone with me. Just help me get started."
There was silence on the other end.
"Levi, please. If you're going to make me do this, at least help me get a head-start."
"Fine. You get ten minutes. Clock's ticking."
"Thank you." You tumbled out of bed and to your desk, opening your laptop and shielding your eyes from the glaring light it emitted. You put your phone on speaker and set it to the side, keeping Levi's voice as a small desk pet. Your fingers rested on the keyboard as you began theorizing what to write. "What's this for?" you asked to get some gears turning.
"I was asked to join a group of professors at a conference. They wanted me to present something, too."
"When exactly is the conference?"
"Tomorrow afternoon."
"Levi! This is insane procrastination! Why didn't you start on this sooner?"
"I don't want to hear it. I can't be bothered to dedicate effort to something I don't give a shit about."
"So you make me do it? At midnight the night before?"
"Yes. Are you writing yet?"
You focused back on the screen. "Yeah, yeah. I'm writing. Tell me more things about this. Give me ideas."
Levi complied, extrapolating on details regarding what he wanted written. You typed as he spoke, interjecting with the occasional question. It was a constant struggle of deleting sentences, rewriting phrases, failing to word a sentiment, or simply comprehending whatever thoughts Levi was throwing at you.
