On Thursday, your chipper morning attitude was slowly smothered as students filed into Levi's seminar class, something about them setting you off. You eyed each student, only to received a shy greeting at best and a harsh denial of attention at worse. You couldn't pinpoint the source, but there was something off-putting about the way they shuffled to their seats, occasionally stealing nervous glances at their two instructors. One look at Levi proved he was thinking the same thing, his body still as his eyes tried to identify what exactly had his kids acting so secretive.
"Good morning," he spoke, hoping to poke at the tense barrier between him and the unusually silent students.
Nobody said anything. Even the more jubilant pupils were as still as their peers. You examined them closer, seeking out the barest sign of agitation. Most avoided your eyes, while some were too busy looking at somebody else to notice you. You followed their gaze, determining which singular student was receiving the most skittish glances.
Levi figured out who it was the same moment you did. "Bertholdt, do you have something to say?"
The spotlighted junior froze at his name, and more definitive peeks in his direction only proved his unknown importance. "Um, no. Why?"
"You're attracting a lot of quiet attention, Bertholdt." Levi folded his arms, his eyes drifting across the hesitant crowd. "Does anyone have something to say about this student?"
"You might as well tell him," Reiner said to his neighbor. "Nothing'll get solved if we keep it a secret."
"Reiner, I can't-"
"Out with it, then." Levi hooked onto the sliver of information Reiner spilt, ready to yank the rest from Bertholdt's mouth.
"It's nothing, really." The lanky student could hardly hide himself amongst his shorter peers.
"Speak, Bertholdt. What do you have to tell me?"
His interrogee meekly lifted his head, choosing to keep his eyes on you instead of your mentor. "It's more for (y/n), actually."
"Oh." You weren't used to being the one that was required. "What is it?"
"Um, I don't know how to say this, but...uh..."
"Bertholdt, come on," Reiner encouraged.
"In my-- well, your apartment, I was attacked."
"Attacked?" Levi's brow furrowed, his fists now stiffly at his sides.
"Yeah. Um, by Caven. That one lady that used to be head librarian."
"Oh my God," you breathed, the shock hitting you like a train. "Are you hurt?"
"No." He shook his head. "She didn't hurt me or anything."
"Tell me everything," Levi demanded as he stormed towards Bertholdt's desk. "I need to know every single thing that went down between you and her."
"Right. Uh, she came in right when I opened the door to leave for my night class. She...um, she pointed a gun at me."
Shit.
"But she stopped once she didn't recognize me. Then she tried to question me, asking about (y/n)'s whereabouts."
"And what did you tell her?"
"I...I'm really sorry, Professor. I told her (y/n) lived with you, but that's it. I said I didn't know your address or anything, but she didn't seem to care. She was satisfied enough with that answer, and left."
"Hm." Levi focused on processing the confession, strategizing what to do with that information.
"I didn't mean to put (y/n) in danger. I'm so sorry. I just-"
