It was dark when you awoke, still late in the night hours. Your face was sunken in the fluffy pillows atop the bed in Erwin's house, the sheets around you just as comfortable. What had awoken you, you weren't sure of, but you gained a small idea when your extending arm touched no body.

"Levi?" you whispered as you raised your head. The bed was empty, devoid of your boyfriend. Sitting up, your squinting eyes scanned the room. You were alone.

Crawling out of bed, you were about to go search for him when a muffled sound stopped you. It was a footstep, so faint you might've imagined it, coming from the area in front of the bowed window. Glancing over, you found the space vacant.

"Levi." Erwin's voice sounded from the carpet. Moving closer, you realized the step and the voice was coming from the floor beneath you, likely where the breakfast nook in the kitchen was situated. The acoustics of the cylindrical space amplified his voice, even if he was trying to stay quiet.

"Erwin? What are you doing up?" Levi's voice reassured you that he hadn't gone far.

You lowered yourself to the ground to hear Erwin's reply. "I thought you might not be asleep yet. I came to check on you."

"It's almost 2 in the morning. Just go to sleep."

"I don't mind staying with you for a few minutes. Here, let me make you some tea."

  "There's no need."

  "Let me."

Silence. You made yourself comfortable by lying on the floor, deciding to eavesdrop on the friends.

"Did you try to sleep at all?" Erwin asked, familiar with understanding Levi's insomnia.

"Yes. (Y/n) wouldn't fall asleep until I had, so I didn't have much of a choice." A low sigh was heard. "I just happened to wake up several minutes later. She was fast asleep by then."

"That's very kind of her, to look after you like that. She really cares for you."

"Yes, I know. She's wonderful. So wonderful," Levi breathed.

  "She is," Erwin agreed.

"You can't tell me you're not in love with her," Levi accused quietly.

"Levi, we should have that conversation with her. Tomorrow."

"I want to know. I'm worried for you two."

  "You'll know tomorrow."

"I have enough shit on my plate. Uncertainty about my loved ones' feelings isn't helping. I just want you to talk to me."

"I'll talk to both of you-"

  "Come on, Erwin!"

"Levi," Erwin growled. "Be quiet. Your bedroom is directly above us. Don't wake (y/n)."

"Sorry," Levi said quickly. "I just want to know."

You, too, were a little startled with how cross Erwin became, his priority of your comfort higher than you were expecting.

"I want to tell you, but I'm not going to lose (y/n)'s trust by telling you now. That's disrespectful to her."

Just go ahead. I'm already awake and listening.

"I'll apologize to her. I'll say it's my fault. I won't let her blame you." Levi was more anxious than he had let on previously. "Just please talk to me right now."

"I've never seen you this unsettled, Levi."

"I just want to know," Levi repeated. "Let me take the blame. We'll talk to her tomorrow, and I'll explain that I forced you to tell me. I'm okay with that."
