The weekend came and went, marked only by a brief trip to the supermarket once you had convinced both of the men to let you come along. It was a short venture, but a welcome one after a week in isolation.
It was Tuesday evening, and both of your housemates had yet to come home. You had discovered last week that Erwin taught a night class on Tuesday that Levi chose to attend, thus prolonging their time at the university more than you wanted.
Well, it's already 6. They should be home in less than an hour. You finished peeling the potatoes Erwin had asked you to prepare for dinner, wondering if you should continue with the recipe even though he had declared he could do the rest when he got home. Discarding the peels, you washed your hands thoroughly before deciding to carry on making dinner.
Three raps at the front door startled you, yanking you out of the mindlessness that took over during your time alone. Treading lightly to the foyer, you pondered just who would be knocking at Erwin's door. Caven was the first person that came to mind, but you quickly swept away the idea with the reassurance of Mitras's safety. There wasn't any peephole to easily see the visitor, so you simply had to hope that you wouldn't be attacked as soon as you opened the door.
Prying one of the massive doors open, you peeked through the crack to see Levi waiting. "Oh!" you exclaimed as you opened it wider. "Levi, you made me nervous. What're you doing at the front door?"
"Good grief, you just opened the door like that?" Levi scoffed as he headed inside, beelining to the dining table to set his briefcase down. "You ought to be more careful."
"Well, um. I-- yeah, I guess. I'll be cautious from now on." You closed the door after making sure Levi didn't have any guests. "Where's Erwin?"
"Teaching."
"Then what're you doing here?" You glided over to him, watching as he shuffled through the papers of his case.
"I came home early. I have work to do."
"Did you drive?"
"No. I took the bus." He sat at the table, retrieving a pen and setting himself to work on his papers. "Today was particularly busy, so I wanted to make sure I have enough time to finish. Erwin will be back later."
You were excited to see your boyfriend so soon, though disheartened to find him occupied with no room for you. "Well, I'm glad you're back already. This house gets really quiet without you guys."
"You say that every time we come home," Levi pointed out.
"Yeah, I mean it. I miss you. I get lonely by myself all day." You hugged him from behind, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.
"I miss you too," he softly admitted. "But I have work to do right now. I must keep my priorities in line."
"Just for a little bit," you requested. "Just spend some time with me. Your girlfriend is feeling very neglected."
He finished reading a paragraph he had started before responding. "I'm sorry to hear that, but I'm occupied. I'm sure my lovely girlfriend can respect the fact that she's dating a busy professor."
"Mm." You pressed your cheek against his neck, wondering to yourself how much you should push it. "Even Erwin has his evenings free. I wish you could too."
"I do, for the most part. Today's an exception." He sighed, having lost his train of thought and trying to start again. "You can stay near me, but I have to focus for now."
"Being near you isn't enough," you declared. "I want more."
"Then you will have to wait," he insisted.
