Levi had been the one to send you home, but that didn't mean his communication stopped. He checked in constantly with short text messages asking about your status either physically, mentally, or in terms of your paper. You smiled at every new text, warmed by his words like a high school teenager.

"Oh, you're calling me now?" You answered the phone later in the evening, talking to your boyfriend while starting dinner.

  "I am."

  "Do you miss my voice?"

  "Maybe."

He's so expressive one moment, then withdrawn the next. "Just a maybe? That's sad."

"Quit teasing me. Are you working on your literature review?"

"I'm taking a break and making dinner."

"Hm. What do you cook for yourself?"

"Oh." You slid a frozen meal into the microwave. "Nothing great."

"Don't tell me you're still relying on cheap meals like a college freshman. I saw a few of them when I spent time at your apartment."

"I don't have much else," you sighed. "I don't have the time or money to get anything nicer."

"You're an adult. You need to eat properly."

"I need to get through college first."

"Your priorities are terribly out of order."

  "Yeah, they tend to be."

There was silence on the other end for a moment. "I'll buy you actual ingredients as long as you promise to use them."

"No, don't waste your money on me. I'll be fine."

"It's not a waste. It's my job as both your mentor and boyfriend to keep you healthy."

"I guess, but I can do it myself."

"Obviously, you can't. I'll buy you food and I expect you to take time and make proper meals. If you can't, just call me over and I'll cook for you."

"God, you just wanna become my live-in butler next?"

"If that what it takes to make sure you take care of yourself, then sure."

  You laughed. "Sounds exciting."

"Anyways, get back to work as soon as you finish eating. I'm expecting a quality paper come Monday."

"I know, I know. Why not just help me write it?"

"I'm here to supervise, not to do your work. You're not getting any favors just because we're dating."

  "So cruel," you muttered playfully.

You stayed on the phone with Levi during dinner, even convincing him to keep talking to you while you worked on your thesis. His company, though dull on the surface, was quite inviting to have.

On Monday morning, you arrived at Levi's office to find him already present and working.

"Good morning, Levi." You shut the office door and smile.

"Literature review. Give it." He extended a hand, refusing to even give you the privilege of eye contact.

"Always so cold, aren't you?" You didn't let his demeanor get to you. Not anymore. You crossed to his desk and set the printed essay in his hand.

"Sit." Levi began skimming the list of academic sources.

You slouched into your chair, watching him read your work. "I had a few more books to look through, but their concepts were kinda repeated in some of the other sources I found."
