Though you had been anticipating it, your summon to the Office of Student Affairs still aggravated you as soon as it was announced. Levi finished reading the email off his computer aloud, you listening from your seat in his office.
"It's only Monday," you griped. "Floch wasted no time filing a complaint."
"It's a report, not a complaint. He reported my physical assault." Levi closed down the browser. "He must be bitter about it."
"Yes. It was pretty intense." You thought deeply, debating as to who was in the right in the situation. Frankly, both parties seemed at fault. What Floch did was inappropriate, but the extent to which Levi handled it was also uncalled for. "What do you think will happen?"
"I'll dispute the severity of the allegation. We'll have a meeting with Dhalis, probably." Levi leaned back and crossed his legs. "I need you to write a recollection of the event in detail. Unbiased, preferably. I'll do the same, just so Dhalis can have more information."
"So there'll be a sort of hearing? I feel like I'm back in the courtroom."
"Well, we got away with shooting a man. Maybe I can get away with fighting a student." Even Levi knew his chances were slimmer than your last legal battle, facing not necessarily jail time but at least a possibility of suspension. The consequences would be tamer, but more probable than before. "Either way, the charge is against me and me alone. You won't face any reprehension."
"I didn't think I would," you noted. "Still, I don't want you to suffer either."
"I'm not suffering. I'm getting what I deserve." Levi wasn't afraid of the outcome. "It was wrong, I admit. The whole case is ambiguous, so we'll just have to see what Dhalis says."
While you went to teach literature analysis, Levi finished arranging plans to attend a meeting regarding the report. To both your surprise, the meeting would be conducted not by Dhalis, but by Nile Dawk. Indifferent, Levi accepted the terms and requested you as a witness. The opposing party, Floch, requested Erwin Smith as his.
"Seriously?" You reviewed the plans with Levi as you left the university at 4 PM. "Why on Earth does he want Erwin?"
"I don't know." Levi walked stiffly, tense with the burden. "We can't assume that it's meant to be a tactic against us. Perhaps Floch just respects the presence of his professor."
"What if Erwin requested to be a witness? That seems like something he would do."
"Again, let's avoid assumptions. We just have to proceed without complaining."
You stopped at the midpoint between the bus stop and the parking lot. "Okay, I won't. I'm heading home now. I'll have that testimony written by tomorrow."
"Good," Levi said. "It's taking place in the afternoon, at 3."
"Are you cancelling your academic success class?"
"Yes. I guess I couldn't be given enough respect to get a meeting scheduled outside of my class time. So rude," he muttered.
"Yeah, a little. Have a good evening, Levi."
"Mm. You too."
Levi had joined you in teaching his seminar class the following morning, perhaps wishing to indulge in the comfort of his students before the trial. Jean inquired about it, but Levi gave nothing more than simple reassurance before dismissing the topic.
At 3, you and your boyfriend arrived at the designated room for the discussion. Entering, you found yourself in a small board room, as generic and unexciting as all the other ones on campus. The other three expected members were already present, only waiting on you two.
