You finished dinner several minutes later and Levi took your dishes to the sink. Remaining at your seat, you hypothesized what came next. The sound of running water proved Levi would be busy for a few minutes washing the dishes. You passed the time by staring out the window, your eyes switching between the different glimmers of light that made up the sides of skyscrapers.
"Wait here." Levi disappeared into the closed door that led to his bedroom, revealing the neatly made queen bed within. He re-emerged several moments later, holding a pen.
"Time for paperwork?" you asked humorously.
"Yes. Both of these documents are due tomorrow." He picked up the papers that had remained on the dining table and sat in the chair closest to you.
Oh, there were two. I didn't think to look at the second one.
He started with the first, the contract regarding the literature department. You couldn't see what he was writing without looking insanely obvious.
"So..." You itched to learn about his decision.
"You still want to ask if I'm expanding the department?"
"Maybe."
He reread sections of the paper, thinking. "Even if I did, that doesn't guarantee you a job."
"It certainly raises my chances of one, though."
"You're so needy. You should learn to take what comes to you."
"Believe me, that seems to be the only thing I've learned under you."
"Tch." Levi scribbled more jargon on the document.
"Do I get an answer?"
"If I'm given some peace and quiet, yes." He continued signing and writing out conditions at different points on the paper. Finished, he set the stapled contract aside and moved on to the next section of pages.
"Uh..." You didn't want him to forget about your question. You were anxious to know.
"As if I had a choice in the first place." Levi sighed. "Of course the department is going to expand. It'll have to eventually, and it might as well happen while I'm in charge."
"Thank you for telling me. I appreciate it."
"Whatever." He began reading the next set of sheets.
"What's that about?" You wished to know about the document you hadn't looked at yet.
"You."
"Huh? Actually?"
He didn't reply, leaving you alone in your question.
"Levi, what is it?"
He glanced up at you, then back at the paper. "Figure it out."
A job application, you joked to yourself. Oh, not far off though. Is it already the semester quarter? I guess it is. I was with Erwin for four weeks, but only Levi for the last week. That'll be five.
"It's my intern review." You guessed, alluding to the review drawn up by your mentor every five weeks.
"Certainly is."
"You ought to give that to Erwin. I was with him longer."
"Too late." Levi smirked momentarily.
"So my review is left in charge of my tormentor? That's unfair." You leaned back in your seat.
"I wouldn't be a tormentor if you would be obedient. 'Difficulty following orders'. Shall I write that down?"
