Stay Beneath Him (INCOMPLETE) (Levi x Reader Fanfiction)

31: You're His

  Levi then disappeared to the bathroom, refusing to express the anxiety he was festering. He was gone for several minutes and you couldn't bring yourself to do anything but wait for him. When he finally reemerged, he had continued his stoic persona as if he had just needed a few minutes to factory reset.

  "Let me see your phone," he demanded.

  "Oh, sure." You got up from the couch and handed your phone to him.

  He took it, opening the dial pad and calling someone. You watched his profile as he waited for the receiver to answer.

  "Isabel? It's me, Levi." Levi gazed out the window as he spoke. 

  Hm, that was that one woman Kenny mentioned. Who is she? You crossed to the wall, leaning against it and listening to his conversation.

  "I'm calling from my intern's phone. Yes, I know. I don't have time to catch up right now." Levi shifted his weight onto one leg. "Is Furlan with you?" He waited for a response. "Fine. Just pass along my message. I need you to listen carefully. No, no. Listen carefully. This is important, Isabel." Once his caller confirmed full attention, he continued. "Do you remember Kenny? Yes, him. Look, he's after me right now. He's threatened to go after you and Furlan, too." Levi put a hand on the windowsill. "No, I'm fine. I'll handle him soon, but I need you both to stay on the lookout until it's resolved. I don't want to leave it up to you, but-" He was cut off, forced to listen to her response. "Oi, don't get cocky. This is only because I can't head over to you right now. I have to stay at Paradis." 

  An outsider couldn't tell, but he already seems pretty close with her. 

  "Knock it off," Levi said with the same tone he used on you. "I need you to focus. Tell Furlan what I told you, and make sure he calls me when he has a chance. Give him my intern's number." He sighed. "Yes. I'm busy right now, but I'll be in touch once this has been resolved." Levi rolled his eyes. "No. I won't promise that. I'm too busy to make a trip over there." 

  She wants him to come over?

  "I don't care. Just don't go anywhere until Kenny has been dealt with. You and Furlan can visit whenever you want when this is done. Yes, fine. I'll talk to you later. Don't forget to talk to Furlan." 

  Hanging up, Levi tossed your phone on the couch and crossed his arms, contemplatively looking out at the cityscape.

  "So...that was Isabel?"

  "Yes."

  That's it? You wanna elaborate? "Forgive me for being intrusive, but who is she?"

  "That is intrusive," Levi agreed. He turned his head to you. "Any reason for you asking?"

  "Um, I was just curious about who your friends are, I guess."

  "Oh? Then why didn't you ask about Furlan, too?"

  "Well..." You looked away, embarrassed. 

  "You had to hone in on the female one, didn't you?" Levi took the single step over to you, closing the distance between your bodies.

  "It's not like that."

  "It's seems like you're jealous," Levi said bluntly. 

  "I'm not jealous," you retorted, looking down at him. "I was just wondering."

  "That doesn't explain why you didn't ask about Furlan." Levi kept taunting you, mocking you for your subtle envy. 

  "Quit teasing me," you grumbled.
