To Be Happy

It took Marinette twenty minutes to process what Adrien was trying to tell her when he walked out on her. She knew it pained him for her to walk about dying and since they were together there were downsides. It was almost like whenever they hung out he never enjoyed it at all but she saw the way he acted with Kagami and it was like he was free. She knew if they got married each day would be a struggle. She will have to wake up knowing that she is Mrs. Adrien Agreste and have that burden on her, knowing that her life would never change. Being chased around by paparazzi and yes, he was right about her sticking up for herself and maybe she had to get used to this crazy rich Asians life because she was going to live and die in this life.

She started out the door, leaving the building to go search for him to tell him something. Obviously she found him at the place where she thought he would be at, sharing his world with Kagami. He laughed with her as she pulled him into her, smiling. He caught sight of her and excused himself. Slowly he approached her, stuffing his hands in his pockets.

"Hey, I see that there is no paparazzi." Said Adrien.

"Yeah it's nice. But I need to talk to you." She drew back her breath, gathering courage to tell him. "I think it's best for us if we break up."

He looked down. "What made you say this?"

"No one."

"Then why do you want to break up?"

"I just want you to be happy. I see the way you look at Kagami and whenever you are around her...it's like she's your world and everything. When we hang with each other...I—I can't feel it anymore. The bond is gone Adrien and yes, I still love you. I can't force you to live in the way I have to live in, I chose this and once when I graduate from high school I'm going to Asia."

"If you still love me...why are you ending it?"

"I just love you so much that I will be willing to let go of you for you to be happier. I can't force you."

"You don't gotta worry about me because one day you will look back onto this and see how much you missed out on."

"If I couldn't be loved, I would rather be respected. Honestly I just wished you chose better. Just know, I wouldn't change what we had, no matter what you said and did, I just want the best for you."

"To let go of me? God, why won't you stick up for yourself. Stop letting the world tell you what and what not to do."

"I am...I will after this I'm going to my father's place and to tell him to stop contacting me."

"Wanna bet on that you will do that? Since you have been doing all of those fake panic attacks."

"Well it's nice to know that I was dating a hypocrite. Also, it's not funny."

"Obviously! I don't want to let go of you! I just love you!"

"Looks like we across purposes then. There is no way...it can't—I'm sorry. It's for the best since my family won't except you and will treat you like hell. It's just not fair."

"Screw it, screw it all!"

"Listen we have—we need to let go."

"How can you ask me to do that?"

"Remember, we are fighters, okay? We will make it."

"I can't do it without you." He stumbled towards her. There eyes met, but hearts apart. "Can we just drop the whole rich life?"

"You know we can't do that. You can't just drop your whole family legacy over our love. Listen, our families made sure that there was no winning in this game. If you chose me, you would lose your family. If you chose your family you may be spending your whole life resenting them. I just love you so much, I don't want you to lose your father again." Tears formed in her eyes. "I'm really sorry."

She walked away from him without another word taking a big breath. He just stood there not knowing what to say only watching her walk away. He trudged towards Kagami still looking down. "Hey what happened?" She asked.

"Nothing, just—I got dumped."

"What? Was she just testing you?"

"No, she really does care...it's just our stupid rich families always makes her reconsider a few things."

"Maybe you should try to get your father to change something?"

"No, he doesn't care at all if I get married or not."

"You know Chinese families never accept people who are not successful. I mean the Agrestes bring in the amount that only doctors bring in. The Chengs and class C7 families bring in money that only the president brings in and possibly more. They are different."

"I know they are. I already got a hint anyway. I just want her. I don't care about money."

"Have you ever watched the movie Crazy Rich Asians or The Joy Luck Club?"

"No."

"Watch it because it will explain a lot."

"Can we watch it now?"

"Bruh...fine. I have it on my phone."

They at least watched the Crazy Rich Asians and The Joy Luck Club for a good six hours because it was dusk. "That explained a lot." He sighed.

"Yeah, wait..." She trailed off seeing something popped up on her phone and it was the latest post. She clicked on it seeing that there was police tape surrounding the Dupain-Cheng bakery with bullet holes shot through the window and exterior. Then it showed Tom Dupain in handcuffs being shoved into a police car. "Adrien..."

He looked over seeing the video as his eyes widened. "What?!"

Then the camera pointed to a group of paparazzi surrounding Marinette. They all yelled at her asking her questions while taking photos. One of them tried to grab her because she was walking away but this time she punched the guy in the face running off somewhere else while they all backed off. The video then ended. "Wait, wait Kagami go back to her."

She did as what she was told. "Here?"

"Yeah, yeah stop!" She paused the video while he looked at the screen seeing that she was covering something and she clenched her hand. "When did this happen?!"

"Er...just twenty-five minutes ago. I think that she didn't go straight on to the place because this was live. I think she went home after dumping you then went off to go..."

"Tell her father to stop contacting her...wait...she ran down that street to..." He started to trail off until he knew where she probably was. "I have to go!"

He ran off to go search for her and yes, he was mad that Marinette went off going to go face a guy who tried to kill them.
