Sophomore year ended and Junior year started. Daiyu called a big gathering in one of her buildings in Paris. "You going to the gathering?" Asked Marinette.
"Yeah, I suppose I should go." Sighed Adrien.
"My mom and I are going to be encountering each other. I don't know how she would—dang it." She mumbled. "Can you get me my phone? I just heard it buzz."
She held out her hand not looking because she was too busy looking at her textbook. She felt pressure on her index finger and she spun around seeing that Adrien lightly bit her finger. "GAH! WHY DID YOU DO THAT?"
"Whenever you hold out your hand like that it's like you're giving me a treat," he looked at her phone.
"HEY! GIVE ME THAT!"
"What? Something I shouldn't see?"
He looked at her phone seeing it was a text message from a group chat named: The Joy Luck Club.
"You must really love that movie. Have you read the book?"
"YES."
He clicked on it and typed in her passcode. He saw the text messages between her and three other people.
Suyuan: do you guys want to come to my place tonight for another game of mahjong?
Lindo: sure. Mari we haven't met up in awhile.
Lena: ayiah, true!
Suyuan: we saw the life magazine, but you haven't been seeing us. Is everything okay?
He showed her the text messages unamused. "You lesbian?"
"NO." She snatched the phone away from him. Suddenly they started a group call.
"Answer it." He threw himself on the couch.
She answered it and prayed a quick prayer. "Hello?"
"AYIAH! MARI! IT HAS BEEN SO LONG!" Lena exclaimed.
"HOW ARE YOU?!" Lindo asked.
"Good, good."
"YOU COMING DOWN TO PLAY MAHJONG WITH US?! NOT JEWISH. WE PLAYING CHINESE." Suyuan asked.
"No, I'm sorry auntie Suyuan. Ever since when my face went on Life magazine things changed. I am not playing mahjong anymore. I have to go now. Bye-bye aunties." Marinette quickly hung up shooting Adrien the glare.
"Aunties?"
"I call them that. I take it they came back from Taiwan and stuff. They are a bunch of old Chinese women who were friends with my ah ma."
"I remember when your cute face was everywhere on Life magazines. Why did you quit mahjong?"
"It's complicated." She sat down next to him on the couch. "It's just that—"
He slowly pressed a kiss on the back of her neck before pulling away. "Hey, can I walk you in?"
"What?"
"When we go to the gathering tomorrow."
That means he's going to be shooting looks at Hao and other guys. We know where this is going to end. I have to explain how much I love him all over again. Crap.
"I-I'm not sure..."
"Not sure?"
"My mother is taking me and—"
