Um this chapter has some triggering stuff, so proceed with caution

With a boatload of his special sunscreen slathered all over him, making his skin feel greasy and just plain gross, Kaito had decided to leave the house. He'd intentionally applied too much of the stuff, wanting it to last for however long he needed it too. Being uncomfortably greasy was better than burning, healing, burning, healing over and over again until he was in dire need of blood.

He'd brought a fair amount of blood with him, the bottles strapped to his sides with a sturdy clip. Due to the metallic bands on his wrists, his walking route was more perilous than it'd normally be. Since he was so close to the road, they wouldn't knock him out. Though that did limit the amount of places that he could go by quite a bit. The band was curious, it was giving off a faint warmth, almost like a cautious warning. It hadn't done that before, but this was also the first time they'd been apart without the sleuth sending the bands a command to allow more distance between them. Having a little indicator was sort of neat.

After a while of walking, the bands did eventually cool down, their only source of heat now being his own and the sun. The magician just shrugged, moving away from the road. Shinichi must have noticed that he'd left and allowed the distance for some reason. It was nice that commands could be inputted from such a distance, though it also made him curious if the little scientist had added some features that Shinichi wasn't aware of.

Kaito shook his head, then headed into the nearby forest to escape the sunlight. It wasn't burning him yet, but the sunscreen only wore off with the special removal cream, or with sunlight. So the shade would make it last longer.

It was too bright out for him to scale a building, so climbing some trees was the best that he'd be getting. Kaito suddenly paused, blinking then intentionally sniffing the air. He could smell blood, and it was human. Fresh too. It also wasn't menstrual blood. He'd been so embarrassed when he realized why he would smell blood on females more often than males.

Frowning, Kaito followed the scent. Hopefully the person had just gotten a really bad scrape or something. Some injuries bled a lot at first and then stopped on their own. Shinichi also wasn't with him, so the odds of him being led to a crime scene were a lot lower... Kaito's brows furrowed, the scent of blood was growing heavier. He sped up.

Stray branches raked at Kaito's skin as he ran, instantly healing. The magician stumbled when he came to a small clearing, spotting a very young teen girl propped against a rock. There was a knife in her stomach. Kaito scrambled over, quickly checking for a pulse but finding none. The body was already cooling.

Taking another look at the wound, Kaito's shoulders slumped, the knife had been twisted horribly. Even if he had found her alive, he would have never been able to get her help in time "Dammit...!" Kaito cursed, teeth grit angrily. She couldn't have been any older than 14 "What bastar-" A clear bag with a piece of paper within it caught his attention, it was weighed down by a rock.

Kaito's blood chilled, no. She was too young. Despite knowing that he shouldn't be messing with potential evidence. The magician couldn't stop himself from opening up the bag and reading the piece of paper. Kaito immediately felt ill, horrified at the contents of the letter. It was short, but it said enough.

I am not a slut, dad hurt me, nobody believed me. I don't want to be a mom. Dad can't hurt me again.

The stomach wound had been self-inflicted... Nausea rolling through him, Kaito texted Shinichi to track his location and to bring the police. He didn't think he'd be able to talk just yet without throwing up. There hadn't been any apologies or 'love yous' directed towards certain people like it was often seen in notes... Had nobody been on her side?

Kaito put the note back, afraid of accidentally destroying it. When Shinichi and the police got here, they'd be able to put the girl's father where he belonged. With Shinichi involved, the truth would be revealed, and hopefully the girl's spirit could rest just a tiny bit easier.

He just sat there until he heard footsteps approach, then hurried to Shinichi's side. The sleuth and all the officers looked more upset than usual, so he figured that Shinichi had shared the details with them ahead of time. Kaito blinked, suddenly spotting Ran a few feet back. She'd come too?

"You just can't seem to get a break today can you?" Shinichi sighed sympathetically, giving Kaito's shoulder a light squeeze. He'd hoped that going out for a walk would do the magician some good. But the look of disgust on the other's face told otherwise.

"I smelt blood, so I technically sought out the trouble..." Kaito sighed.

Looking uneasy, Ran came closer "I'll call my mom to see if she can help gather legal evidence" If nothing else, her mom could tip off some of the better lawyers to not take him as a client. She wiped her eyes, unable to stop her tears from falling.

Shinichi's eyes softened at seeing his two friends so upset "I'll do what I can to help confirm that it was suicide, then we could go back to my place and watch a movie. I'm pretty sure that I still have some popcorn"

Red eyes narrowed "The bastard better end up in jail"

The sleuth nodded "If things go south, I'll even ask for my father's help"

Ran blinked "Shinichi..." Shinichi absolutely hated asking for his father's help.

"You won't need to, you're good, and the note's going to be proved to be genuine-because it is" Kaito added, tone soft. He had faith in the sleuth, even if it wasn't his area of expertise.

Smiling, Ran nodded "Kuroba-kun and I will think about which movie we want to watch while you do your thing"

Kaito eyed her with nervous surprise "Sure"

Me: That was the worst kind of cause for suicide that I could think of so I used it. By worst I mean 'Justifiably horrific' not worst as in a pathetic reason

Comment? ^-^

Gah, I dislike being one of the more competent housekeepers at work >^<

I don't like taking the late shift all alone, mainly because I get home around 8pm... My bedtime is 9pm

It's not worth being paid to sit around for a bit as I wait for specific people to check out •3•

Berry is morning person, not afternoon person

I should have rejected the first two requests •-• now a shift like that has been scheduled into my most recent work schedule.
