68: Darkness and Light

Why didn't it ever occur to me that Midnight hadn't used the curse of the Sin of Wrath to anyone yet? We were all used to him always utilizing his eyes and blood magic, hindi na namin napansin na mayroon pa nga siyang isa pang kapangyahiran. His very own blood magic was already deadly enough to deal with, I could not imagine the extent of what the Wrath of the Seven Deadly Sins could do.

Napatingin ako sa Emperor na ngayon ay hindi mo na maitindihan ang pagmumukha. Just seconds ago he was grinning from ear to ear, his goal a few minutes away from achieving it, but now the look on his face was pure exhaustion and quiet rage. And maybe fear. It was obvious enough he hadn't thought about it too. He was too occupied plotting the obliteration of the Midnight Zagreus, that he forgot about the Sin of Wrath.

Out of nowhere, I let out an exhausted laugh. Napahawak ako saaking noo. Natawa uli ako wala sa oras. Pinanood ko kung saan ay biglang sumigaw sa galit ang Emperor at sumugod ng walang pasabi sabi. Sa oras na iyon ay alam ko ng katapusan na niya. You could never lose your temper in front of a Midnight Zagreus or it would be an instant death. Yet again, the Emperor forgot about it either.

Hindi man lang umusog si Midnight mula sakanyang pwesto. Blood, the color of deep red, flowed down through the dark cloth he used to cover his eyes. I would have warned him about the sudden outburst of the Emperor but that would only be a stupid move. Midnight had only snapped his fingers once, and a fire in the colors of crimson and dark orange ignited around the Emperor's body.

Becuase of the momentum, hindi kaagad naitigil ng Emperor ang kanyang pag atake. Midnight sidestepped, at dumiretso ang Emperor sa sahig. Sumisigaw at panay galaw sa katawan para ata mapatay ang apoy sakanyang katawan. He had cursed Midnight's name over and over again. The agony and desperation on his voice made it harder for me to listen to him. He couldn't stand up. He couldn't even do anything but roll onto the ground like a paranoid maniac as the flames engulfed him entirely.

"It will continue to burn you until you die. It cannot be extinguished unless I say so" Midnight said. "The curse of Wrath of the Seven Deadly Sins only burns those who resent him. It cannot destroy otherwise. In other words, anyone who sees me as their enemy will burn and die"

Lahat ng may tinatagong galit sakanya ay masusunog. Iyon ang kapangyarihan ng isang Sin of Wrath.

"The stronger the hatred you have for me, the more painful it will be" 

Pinilit ko ang katawan ko na tumayo. I stretched my wrists. Both of them. Hindi na ako kailangan dito. I wasn't even certain if I was needed here in the first place. Midnight could have single-handled the Emperor. Hindi naman niya talaga ako kailangan. He just wanted me to join the fight out of respect--- kasi kasali nga naman ang buhay ko sa mga ginago ng Emperor.

The Emperor didn't stop from moving. He was still alive and fighting for his life. He continued to curse Midnight as though he hadn't listened to anything Midnight had said.

Lumipat ang tingin ko sa likuran, kung saan ay patuloy parin nakikipaglaban ang mga mandirigma sa isa't isa. I knew from the start the war wouldn't end just because the Emperor was killed. In order to truly end this, we needed to outnumber the enemies and make them realize they were losing, para sila na mismo ang umatras.

At alam ko na kung ano ang gagawin ko.

I have been practicing this technique for a while now. I knew I needed to utilize it sooner or later.

Bumalik ang atensyon ko kina Midnight at sa Emperor nang marinig kong nagsalita si Midnight. 

"Bago ka mamatay, may kailangan akong sabihin sayo" Finally Midnight walked closer to the Emperor. And this was only when the Emperor's body had turned immobile from the flames. Midnight crouched beside the burning, yet still alive Emperor. He moved as though he wasn't blind. "Iyong celestial mage na nagtatrabaho para sayo? He used to work for me"
