Author's P.O.V.
Ironic how his eyes had no tears yet it was filled with the most pain. His pupils was a void of darkness, showing the depths of his scorched soul. His lack of emotions showed how devoid of love he has been. His face carried a tired sadness, as if he was tired of losing the people who ever meant anything to him.
Jasmine, even though she hated him to her very core, felt her heart ache for him. She could see him, struggling within himself, reminiscing the horror of his past which he could never get over. And for the first time, Jasmine wasn't afraid of him because the person sitting in front of her wasn't Alfredo. He was the little kid who lost his family too young, who was forced to take responsibilities when he should've had a carefree childhood. The kid who's still incapable of feeling any emotions because his heart was far too scarred, to let it in.
Guilt rushed through her veins at the fact that she felt pity for her friend's murderer.
She took a deep breath, "How... did you escape?" She asked, bringing her knees near, curling herself in a ball and placed her head against her knee as she waited for his answer.
A scoff escaped his throat, as his eyes shined under the dim light peeking through the window, "My mother's last words was to be there with Aaron" A long pause before he spoke again, "that's exactly what I did and I'm not exactly proud of it" He gulped down the guilty lump forming in his throat.
Jasmine straightened her head, frowning as she heard him, "What'd you do?" Her voice was a mere whisper yet he he heard her anyway.
There was a thick silence enveloping the small room, to heavy for either of them to intake even a bit of oxygen.
He was guilty for whatever he did or did not to survive. It was written on every lining of his face, in his every breaths, every movement of his eyes.
"I...." He sighed, sniffing away the tears burning his eyes, "I left her" His words was shaky, cracked. "I left my mother. I did not try to save her. I RAN AWAY" His voice seemed like his throat hurt to let out every syllable.
Flasback
Alfredo slumped down the wall, clamping his mouth shut so that they won't hear, he held Aaron close to him, clamping his ear shut with his other hand, cooing him softly.
"Cl.. Close your eyes... Aaron... everything will be fine...." He stammered in his words.
"Mom..." He sobbed, asking for his mom.
Alfredo wiped his tears harshly and looked back in the house through the window when he heard Sebastian's voice again.
"Well that was nasty" He said lazily, glancing over Adelaide. "She's still left..."He said looking at Adelaide who was a crying mess on the floor.
"As much as I'd love to kill you by myself, I'm needed elsewhere right now sister in law but don't worry, My men will do the job perfectly" He said to Adelaide, shooting her a dirty look, making her realize what brutality was coming along her way. But she was too heartbroken, and outnumbered to do anything but to accept her fate.
Fortunately, for the last time, her eyes fell on his son who was peeking through the window with his puffed up red eyes. She forced a pained smile at him, satisfied at the thought of seeing him for the last time.
"Go" she mouthed to him but Alfredo shooked his head as a No. He wanted to save her.
"And yes, there were two kids, find them and finish this whole family and burn this house down. Do you understand me?" He said to his subordinates.
