Ch. 17: Behind Her Playful Smile

The school festival eventually arrived. And just like every other year, everyone was excited about what this year's festival had in store, especially after all that planning and practice prepared by each and every club and class.

The morning of the first day, however, only ended up disappointing everyone, as proven by the dull vibe the school corridor's gave, much in sync with the rainy weather just outside.

"Ugh! Why'd it suddenly have to rain?" Heejin groans as she stretches back in her seat, looking out the window where she can clearly see the rain still steadily falling.

From the seat infront of her, Taehyun then turns around to face her, soon placing his arms and chin on his seat's backrest as he looks towards the rain as well. "Well, I mean, it doesn't look like it'll be getting worse anytime soon. Maybe it'll get better in the afternoon."

"Who even allowed you to move your seat here, anyway?" Jay then asks, still seated beside Heejin and right next to the window. A frown is on his face, and his arms are folded as he stares Taehyun down.

To that, Taehyun shrugs, no longer that scared of Jay as he looks back at him. "I asked the teacher to bring me closer to the window so I can see better."

"Yeah, right. Like you didn't ask to come here so you could get closer to Heejin."

"What's wrong with that?" Heejin asks, to which Jay looks at her with a disbelieving expression.

"Sorry?? Are you actually defending this punk?"

"I have a name," Taehyun then inserts with a raised brow, causing Jay to snap his head towards him with an intimidating glare.

"What's that? Did you actually just talk back to me?!" Jay raises his voice, but Heejin quickly grabs the back of his collar and holds him back. Meanwhile, Taehyun moves back a little.

Well, maybe Taehyun is still a bit scared.

"Alright, that's enough from both of you. Seriously, don't you ever get sick of trying to get at each other's throats?"

"Hey, he started it?" Taehyun defends himself while pointing at Jay, but he quickly becomes quiet when both Jay and Heejin shoot him a glare.

"Seriously, it feels like I'm watching over two kids whenever I'm with you two," Heejin mutters under her breath, massaging her forehead before she eventually gets called by one of her classmates at the door.

"Yo, Lee Heejin!" Doyum shouts from the door, and Heejin looks up at him to see Geonu peeking in from behind him. "Someone here's looking for your brother!"

To that, Heejin stands up, eventually leaving the two boys with each other while she went to speak with Geonu... much to Taehyun and Jay's dislike.

"Hey. Have you seen your brother around? I asked him to buy some supplies for our classroom's decorations but he hasn't even come back yet," Geonu complains to Heejin, clearly feeling uneasy.

Heejin frowns in response, before she soon places a hand on her hip. "He hasn't come back yet? Maybe he forgot to bring an umbrella with him or something. Either way, he'll probably eventually come back. You know how he is, taking his time in a lot of things."

"Well, I know. But what if something actually happened this time-"

"Sunbae," Heejin suddenly cuts him off, placing a hand on his shoulder and smiling thinly. "Chill. It's like all you ever do other than study is worry too much about everything. I'm pretty sure even Heeseung-oppa had told you something similar?"

Geonu doesn't respond with words. Instead, he only frown in reaponse as he looks down the hallway. "Well, he should at least text me or something if he's gonna take a while..."
