Ch. 34: For a Better Relationship

The next day!

"..."

"..."

"You guys... What the hell is this?" With irritation showing in his tone and on his face, Jay sat in his seat, somehow caught in the middle of the awkward atmosphere that had formed between Taehyun and Heejin.

Not that he sat in between them. But he sure did feel like he had suddenly become the mediator as he stood beside the two teenagers' seats. Both remained quiet, though, and at the same time, neither seemed to have any intentions of raising their heads to look up at their confused classmate.

"Hey-?!"

Just at that moment, Kai comes into the room, unaware as he went straight for the person he had come to the room for. "Hey, Taehyun! Heeseung-hyung asked me to call you for a meet- Woah, what happened here?!" He stops, however, when he discovers the awkward situation infront of him, and he is left standing beside Jay, the two looking with confusion as to what exactly is going on between their school's know-it-all and the new kid.

"You tell me. Neither one of them seem willing to speak the truth," Jay tells Kai with his arms folded and brows furrowed, before he breathes out an incredulous laugh. "I mean, they don't even seem willing to speak at all, and I'm not really a good guesser so how am I supposed to know?"

To that, Kai didn't really know how to respond. He only glances at Jay for a second, before he looks away again, his fingers tapping together as he seems confused by the situation, too. "I mean, I guess, I could try but I wouldn't know how, either, so..."

"Yeah, too bad our Ms. Know-it-all is too much in a trance to help us. You hear that, Heejin?!" Jay shouts his last sentence, looking towards the mentioned girl with eyes meant to call her out. But like he said, it seems she is too much in a trance to respond properly. "Sheesh, she's out... And apparently, so is Taehyun."

Kai purses his lips in response, and he places his hands on his hips while observing the two teenagers. "Yeah, looks like we really have no choice at this point."

"So? Are you really gonna try and find it out somehow?" Jay asks him, looking like he doesn't believe him at all. And then Kai does something unexpected.

"May the spirit of Lee Heejin possess me!"

But then again, since when did the kid ever do anything expected?

After Kai had shouted those words, Jay jumps in surprise before he looks at the former as if he were crazy. Meanwhile, as if he truly believed that the words he said would help him guess better, Kai turns back to Heejin and Taehyun with his eyes shining. "I'm ready."

"Sure you are," Jay mumbles sarcastically under his breath, rolling his eyes and folding his arms yet again as he looks towards Heejin, hoping that he could somehow get an idea from observing her.

It didn't take long before he somewhat got an idea, though. But as soon as he did, Jay's brows furrowed, and soon his eyes widened as he began to realize something.

The last time he saw Heejin acting this weird... it was when she received her first kiss. Specifically, her first kiss from Kang Taehyun!

"Aha!" Kai suddenly exclaims, causing Jay to snap out of his thoughts and turn back to him to see the boy holding his index finger up with an enlightened expression on his face. "That's it! Eureka! I know what it is!"

"Oh, just say it already instead of saying a bunch of expressions like that!" Jay tells him, and Kai smiles nervously before his smile turns into a nervous laugh.

"Haha... I would, but it could get me killed."

"And why would that be?" Jay asks, his brow raised as he looked at Kai with a challenging look.
