Ch. 48: Sports Fest Fiascos

"We are the Bumblebees! We work until we die–"

"Kai, I swear, if you don't stop, I'm gonna rip your throat out."

With the threat pointed at him, Kai immediately stops dancing and slowly lowers his bright yellow pom poms in fear that Jinhee would attack him again. All the while, the latter glares at him while seated on the bleachers, just waiting for her to be called in while some of their classmates are currently playing on the court.

And by their classmates, that would definitely include, Heejin, Taehyun, and Jay, all in one team and amazingly still standing after several rounds of their opponents throwing their balls at them.

"Don't you think it's about time that we won this? We've literally been standing for like five minutes already and yet none of us have been hit," Jay speaks out, almost complaining as he keeps a close eye on their opponents, picking up ball and getting ready to hit them again.

"You know, we'd actually win this if you were just throwing the ball where you were supposed to!" Heejin argues, and Jay grimaces as he turns to her.

"Sorry?"

"Guys, they're about to start," Taehyun then warns them, and the former two turn their heads and look ahead again, just in time for Jay to see one student on the opposite team looking particularly competitive. And with their hawk eyes looking straight at the girl beside him.

The whistle blew, and the opponent team started throwing their balls all in one direction. Jay's eyes widen as he realizes where they're all pointed at: straight at the literally the only person who's been able to hit any of their opponents since the beginning of the game, Lee Heejin.

"Heejin!"

"Heejin, watch out!" All of a sudden, Taehyun shouts as he sees where their opponents had aimed at as well, and before anyone could even do anything else, he gets in front of the girl and stands still, shielding her before all three dodgeballs from their opponent hit him, in the back, in the leg, and on his head, causing him to stagger forward before suddenly coming face to face with Heejin.

Both their eyes widen as their eyes meet, and for a moment, time seems to freeze, as their breathing and heartbeat both quicken. And then they hear another whistle.

"Kang Taehyun, out! Enter Go Jinhee!"

Taehyun staggers one more time, almost falling onto Heejin if it weren't for the latter grabbing his shoulders and then keeping him in place. Still, both their eyes remain wide as they look at each other, before Jay clears his throat.

"Ahem! Guys... seriously, get a room."

"Oh, shut up!" Heejin replies as she finally turns away from Taehyun and towards Jay, before she lets go of the former boy just as Jinhee gets on court.

Meanwhile, Taehyun clears his throat as well as he takes a step back and looks away from Heejin, before he eventually asks. "Are you okay?"

Heejin looks back at him, feeling her heart pounding yet again at the sight of him, before she looks away and gives an equally awkward response. "... Yeah. And you?"

"Yeah, I think I am," he replies, and then Jinhee appears behind him.

"Great, so can we go on with this game now or are you two gonna keep having your moment here while rubbing it all over Jay's face?" Jinhee asks, an ironically sweet smile on her face as she tilts her head to become visible to Heejin, and the latter sneers at her before looking away.

"Whatever, let's finish this game so we have one less thing to be embarrassed about."

"Sure, sure," Jinhee replies with an eye roll, before she and Heejin almost simultaneously turn towards Kai who's still watching from the sides.
