Ch. 45.5: SECTION EPILOGUE: Once Again

"Hey, Taehyun! Wanna go spying on Go Jinhee with me?" All of a sudden, Heejin asks Taehyun right after coming into the the SC president's office, only for her idea to be met with a somewhat judging look.

"... What?"

Of course, her crazy idea is bound to summon a frown on the boy's face, and Heejin smirks and laughs at his response. But then a second later, she continues, and Taehyun realizes that she's actually serious.

"Come on. It's for a good reason, anyway!... I just want to check on one last thing before this day ends."

"... Which is...?" Taehyun asks, curious now as he finishes fixing the papers he's been working on and keeping them in the shelves.

And Heejin smiles as she leans against the wall, waiting for him to finish his work as he speaks. "It's a surprise for Go Jinhee's birthday," she replies, and Taehyun pauses before he looks at her in surprise.

"You know, you're actually easier to work with when it comes to spying instead of Jay," Heejin comments in a whisper as she and Taehyun finally make it to Jinhee's apartment after following her discreetly there.

"Are you saying I'm more gullible?" Taehyun asks back.

And Heejin smiles playfully as she looks at him. "No, I'm saying you're actually obedient."

Just like last time, they hide behind a wall, watching from afar as Jinhee climbs up to the second floor of the apartment building, before she reaches her door only to stop at something that seems to be placed on the floor right in front of it. Her brows furrow, and Heejin taps Taehyun's shoulder, signaling to him to follow her as she starts to move closer.

Meanwhile, Jinhee looks at the familiar-looking food packaging at her feet, placed inside a plastic bag, and still looking hot, like it was bought just a while ago.

"Who..." she mumbles under her breath, before she looks around and then picks it up.

Her eyes widen when she realizes what it is, however, before she feels her chest swelling up as memories start playing in her head. Her eyes start welling up, too, but then she shakes her head to shake them away, and she quickly unlocks her door and then enters her apartment, unaware of her two classmates who've been watching from behind her, eventually getting nearer to peek inside her apartment through the windows.

"This is a bit too risky, don't you think?" Taehyun asks Heejin as they both look through the windows, grimacing at the thought of getting caught. However, his concern is left unaddressed as Heejin just shushes him, and he frowns in response before he looks inside, just as Jinhee quickly drops her bag onto the kitchen table, and then places the packed food right next to her bag.

Her eyes are still wide as she hastily takes the packaging out of the plastic bag, and she opens it, before she sees what's inside, and she gasps.

Hotteok. The same ones her mother used to buy for her on her birthdays when she was still alive. And, as it seems, the same exact ones from the same pancake shop she used to buy them from.

For a moment, Jinhee freezes as she looks at the hotteok, packed like they had always been when she was young. She moves her hand from her mouth, shaking as she reaches into the packaging and slowly picking up a piece. And after a long minute later, she puts it into her mouth, chewing it and eventually swallowing it as she feels her chest swelling up all over again.
