Ch. 57: I Wanted To Say

"Did you wait long?" Taehyun asked that question, with the intent of showing concern for the girl that had to wait outside in the cold without his knowledge. Oh, if only he had known, then he would come here as soon as he found out.

But, well, maybe Heejin needed some time to prepare, too, anyway.

"H-hmm?" All of a sudden, heat rises up to the girl's cheeks upon realizing how close she is to Taehyun. She yelps as she quickly moves back, hitting the back of the bench with her back and then bringing her hands up to her face. "W-what is this? Am I getting a fever or something?! B-but I can't get sick now. I have a lot of things I still need to do-"

"Heejin," Taehyun cuts her off before she could continue rambling even further. As he did so, Heejin just looks back at him, raising her brows before looking away in a flustered state. Her cheeks don't stop heating up at that point, though, and as Taehyun notices, he just can't help but chuckle at the sight.

"You know I can punch you if you make me upset, right?" Heejin then asks all of a sudden, and Taehyun laughs again, this time being just a bit louder. Heejin glances at him when he does, but then she chuckles herself as she looks down. Taehyun sure does have a tendency to instantly make her soft, she thinks. Not that she doesn't like it. If anything, it just makes her want to stay around him more. "Ah... I really can't help it. I really do like you, don't I?"

Eventually, Taehyun takes his seat on the bench beside her, and a few seconds more, silence falls again. Awkward it may seem, though, but something about it feels rather peaceful. It makes Taehyun smile as he looks up at the stars above them. Somehow, they seem to be twinkling more brightly tonight, and it gives him hope that today might go well. "... You know, I thought I'd never get to talk to you again because of how much you've been ignoring me..."

"Yeah, I guess, I should apologize for that, too, huh?" Heejin replies nervously, bring her hand to her nape as she turned away from Taehyun. "Right, sorry... I just got really frustrated to the point I couldn't bring myself to face you, and it wasn't even just you! I guess... I was frustrated with myself, too. I didn't understand what I felt. I mean, you'd have to understand this is my first time liking someone and I didn't really know what to do with my feelings. I..." Heejin paused, suddenly finding herself unable to continue. What else is she even supposed to say anyway? "... I like you. Alright?" Heejin chuckles, before she turns to Taehyun with a smile. "Tell me, what am I even supposed to do about that?"

The boy turns away from the stars before looking back at Heejin. Once his eyes land on her, however, his eyes widen, because for a moment, it's almost like the girl is sparkling much more than the stars ever could. He really does like being around her, too. At this moment, his heart begins pounding, pushing him to let out what it holds. Taehyun opens his mouth, ready to confess his feelings... only to be interrupted by the arrival of his bus.

"Oh." Simultaneously, the two teens think to themselves as they turn to the vehicle approaching. Disappointing, indeed, but it's not like they can just delay Taehyun's journey home now, can they? After all, this must be the last bus now.

Heejin sighs quietly to herself before standing up and then flagging the bus just as it approaches the bus stop. Taehyun watches her quietly, but he doesn't get up from the bench. He can't leave. Not now. Not when this might just be the only chance he could tell her how he feels.

The bus stops, and Heejin looks at it forlornly before turning to Taehyun, just as he stands up and calls her name.

"Lee Heejin!"

For a moment... for just a moment, that was all Taehyun hoped he could have to get to her. His steps turned brisk, his breathing stopped, and as he took the girl's hand and pulled her towards him, his eyes began to sparkle with all the stars in the sky above them. In just a moment, he found himself face to face with the girl he liked, and Taehyun just can't help but smile as he places his hand on Heejin's cheek before kissing her.
