ERIN

- Where are you going ? Emery asked. You're gonna miss the show !
Without turning around, I retorted :
- Don't worry for me, I have another one, waiting for me downstairs.
Behind me, I heard my brother's laugh while I was going to my room.
I knocked on the door – by the way, I don't know why, because it's my room – and entered. The Angel was having her back to me, and the arms crossed. She didn't say anything when I entered.
- Hey.
- I have a boyfriend, she instantly declared without a move.
I didn't had time to understand what was happening. She was now staring at me, eyes in the eyes, and she continued :
- His name is Jared. You met him the day you were caught by the police.
I still didn't see what she was getting at.
- Yes, I remember, I said despite this.
She stayed quiet a while, before declaring :
- After bringing Kelly here, I joined him in my apartment. And we had sex. I love him so much.
I was sure of two things that night : the first one was that, for some reason, she was trying to make me angry ; the second one was that she was drunk. It was obvious.
But in spite of all my confusion, she continued in that way :
- During it...during sex, I noticed how much I was happy with him, but not only. I also noticed that you are a burden to me. A piece of shit that keeps me from getting on and enjoying life.
I stayed silent. I wanted her to finish her hilarious speech.
She was crying now.
She was sounding crazy.
- Erin, you're just a poor guy with lots of problems, who needs someone to fix it for him. But I won't be that someone.
Keep me from laughing, it's so hard !
- Are you done ? I asked with calm. Well, you know, it's funny to hear that from a rich little girl to whom we have always given everything.
- That's not true.
- It is. And you know it. That's why you don't want help from your parents anymore.
- You're wrong !
- You don't want them to pay your rent. You don't want to wear expansive clothes because you're afraid that people would notice it. You work hard to pay your rent and your studies alone. Only because you know you have this priviledge, and we don't. And you feel guilty for it. So technically, you're the piece of shit in this room.
I did it. I see it in her eyes. I told her the truth. I hurted her, like she wanted me to do. But I'm not done. This day was a very bad day and I want someone to pay for that. I found who.
- So I think you lie all the time, to everybody. Because you're not at peace with yourself. You don't need me to make your life suck. You are your own burden.
Suddenly, I realized she was not well. Really not. She was huddled in on herself, her face was red, and her eyes were the saddest I ever seen.
Have I gone too far...?
- I'm sorry, she whispered between two sobbs. I am so sorry.
And she broke down in tears. Unstoppable ones. Deep tears, that she had been holding back for too long. I abruptly needed to hold her in my arms. So I went closing the door and got closer slowly.
- Don't be, it's okay, I whispered to her ear, hugging her. It's okay.
- Jared and I broke up, she announced, crying.
I did not expect that.
Personally, I don't take it as a bad new, as I never liked that coward. But, despite this, I faked my sadness, to respect her.
- I'm sorry.
- Thank you, she puffed in my shoulder.
