Your Endgame (Short Story)

"Standing by my window, listening for your call, seems I really missed you after all.."

As I was slowly strumming my guitar, singing one of our favorite love songs, "I'll always love you" by Michael Johnson.. It's been five years since I confessed my love for you.. You were my long time girl bestfriend, and now we are getting married..

"Time won't let me keep these sad thoughts to myself, I just like to let you know, I wish I'd never let you go.."

Each line of the song gives so much to feel-- it haunts me back to our past, our sweet memories, our ups and downs.. Of how we hold onto each other when no one else was.. And just like those lines, we deeply wish for a love and a friend to keep, for a lifetime..

"And I'll always love you, deep inside this heart of mine I do love you.."

I love you and I will always will, you will forever have the special space in my heart..

"And I'll always need you, and if you ever change your mind, I'll still, I will love you.."

And there you look so beautiful walking down the aisle.. As the man of your dreams awaits you at the altar.. You sweetly smile.. And that smile was never meant for me..

"Time like a river keeps on rolling right on by, nothing left for me to do, so I watch the river rise.."

You were my first love, my bestfriend, my soulmate.. And here I am, singing one of our favorite love songs on your wedding day.. Guess we're meant to be this way..

"I'll still, I will love you.."

Tears of joy fell from these eyes, atleast you found the one, even if it's not me who you truly love..

"Hey stop crying, we'll have that same wedding after the next three months, hon.."

How could I forgot this gorgeous lady, standing next to me, giving her most beautiful smile.. The smile which captivated my heart two years ago..

"Of course hon, I am just happy, at last she had found the one.."

I am genuinely glad for my bestfriend, but I'm more delighted with this lady beside me.. "You have really loved her, don't you? You're willing to sacrifice your own happiness just for her to be happy.."

I saw hurt on your eyes, but I want to remove them and replace it with my warmest feeling.. 

"I realized, there will always be somebody who'll bring out the best in you, even if she was not meant to be your end game.. A person who'll push you to be even better, and to find someone even more worthy enough loving for--- and that's when I found you.. If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't find someone like you, my love.."

I gave you the most sincere words I could ever utter-- and a tear fell down on your cheek, as your face lighten up, then you look at me..

"I'm even more blessed to have a woman like you hon.. I love you.."

I gently planted a kiss on your forehead as I softly say..

"You might not be my girl bestfriend, my first love, nor my soulmate.. But one thing's for sure, I will never regret the day I realized that you are more than my truest love.. You are my greatest love.."

I hear you chuckle, and then you hug me-- my heart is full and overflowing.. Contentment filled up my whole being..
