Izuku stood in front of a mirror, staring right into his own eyes as if he was having a staring contest with himself. He then flashed a wide smile directed at himself.
"Izuku, you can do this. Today will go swimmingly...Did I just use the word swimmingly? Could've sworn I heard Kyouka say that once..."
The boy checked out his body in the mirror, examining his clothes, unsure if she should change or not. He wore simple formal casual attire and thought to himself if he should lean toward more formal or more casual. But maybe this is a good balance?
'At the very least, this necklace works with this outfit. Then again, this necklace has worked with every outfit I've worn since I got it. Or am I wrong? I never had a good eye for these things. But Ashido seemed to think so when I ran into her last week and I can trust her opinion...Yeah, I can.'
Izuku glanced at the calendar on his wall, seeing the date.
Today was August 1st, Kyouka's 16th birthday, and he was feeling prepared to the max, unlike last year.
Well...he was physically prepared at least.
Mentally? He could be doing better.
Was it because today would be the first time both of their families would meet, or because this would be the first time he's celebrated her birthday while having romantic feelings for her?
Going back to the former possible reason, Kyouka invited his mom over for her birthday and requested a cake since according to her, his mom makes the best cakes she's ever had.
He couldn't argue with her though since he thinks the exact same. No one makes a cake like his mom.
But the more he thought about his mom coming to Kyouka's birthday, the less he thought that her coming would be an issue.
If anything, she can provide a distraction for his feelings toward his best friend.
And Kyouka's parents have always been amazing themselves, so he's sure that they will all get along great.
As Izuku quit worrying about how he looked, he turned his head toward his desk to see a small box that laid on it. He walked over to the desk and picked up the box before tossing it up a short distance and catching it.
"Is this the right gift to give her?"
He was fairly confident that Kyouka would like this. But he didn't know if it compared to the necklace she got him.
Wait, he shouldn't compare the two. It's something Kyouka would certainly frown upon. He has to present his gift with full confidence to make sure he doesn't become a downer.
It's no biggie. He's given her two birthday gifts in the past, so why should this one be any different just because he has feelings for her?
He just needed to calm down.
Izuku touched the pendant, starting to feel Kyouka's heartbeat.
It was odd. Feeling this pulse seemed to help calm him down. Even after working out, this pulse helped lower his own heart rate.
He felt her pulse at least once a day, but that's probably because of how new this necklace is and how fascinated he still is with this feature.
It wasn't weird for him to do, right?
He wasn't some creepy guy because he felt the heartbeat of the girl he likes on a daily basis, right?
Dammit, now he's beginning to convince himself that he might be a little creepy.
But if he could give himself any credit at all, then he could say that he really hasn't used the tracking feature except for the day after they came back from I-Island just to test out that feature.
