chapter 2 - see you later

Sebastian's Perspective

"See you later," I whispered, even after the train had gone already.

I could still hear the echo of her laughter, and the glow in her eyes. She was a burst of walking sunshine even in my dreariest of days, despite the horror she's been through.

She was always excellent at concealing it for the sake of others around her, but I knew better.

I know we both have our traumas from this year, but I can't help but feel like her burdens were heavier to carry. So, for her to keep smiling like that must take one hell of an effort.

I didn't know why it hurt so much to say farewell to her. It wasn't like I'd never see her again.

And what was it that I wanted to say to her?

Maybe it was a good thing we got interrupted or else I might've mumbled something stupid, and I didn't want to lose her.

She was my friend.

Okay well...to be honest, I didn't think I'd ever gain another best friend. Then she popped up out of nowhere that sorting ceremony night, then beat my ass and pride during DADA class, and suddenly my life spiraled out of control.

Though I suppose it was already spiraling out of control before she even got here.

She sacrificed so much for me. I might've taken her for granted throughout fifth year, and it made me wonder how she stayed by me through it all.

I've said some...no, I said a lot of dreadful things to her. I've hurt her, and I don't think I'll ever recover from the guilt of it, among other things.

I rubbed the back of my neck, and slid off my tie, as if it was suffocating me from watching the train fade into the distance.

I took my time going back to the Great Hall where very few students lingered about. Ominis sat at the Slytherin table, chatting with Imelda. None of us needed the Hogwarts Express to go home, so we stayed behind and took our time leaving.

"Sebastian, you're back!" said Imelda, seeing me approach.

"Any luck finding her?" asked Ominis.

I sat beside him and gave sheepish smile. "Yeah, I saw her."

Imelda raised her eyebrows at me, waiting for more. "Okay...and??"

"And what?"

"Sebastian, truly, stop being so daft," Ominis uttered.

"What did you tell her?" Imelda insisted.

"Nothing! What was there to tell? We just promised to write to each other."

Ominis laughed. "Hah! Told you, Imelda. You owe me 10 Galleons."

Imelda groaned, reluctantly handing him galleons.

"Hold on now, you placed bets on me?! For what?"

"I do wonder who the blind one truly is here sometimes. Perhaps next time, brother." Ominis dramatically patted my shoulder. "Imelda was convinced you were going to confess to Y/n."

"What in Merlin was I supposedly going to confess? Nothing, you idiots." I rolled my eyes and stood up. "I'd better go and pack up. I'll see you both later."
