chapter 9 - diagon alleyLiving for the hope of it all. Wasn't that what life was all about sometimes?
It's been exactly a month since the events of my birthday ball.
Since then, I've sent owls to my girls—Natty, Poppy and Imelda—asking if they wanted to grab school supplies early in Diagon Alley. I knew Imelda lived far, but since she was travelling, she was going to be nearby anyway. Poppy and Natty were back from travelling too, making it all perfect.
They gladly accepted, which made me happy. I needed some serious girl time with them.
So, here I was now, waiting in one of the coffee shops for my girls before I go shopping for my supplies. Living for the hope of it all as they say. Hoping to redeem this summer and all that I lost.
I was sitting outside, with a small cup of coffee. Two sugars, two creams. Diagon Alley wasn't as busy today, since most students didn't actually start shopping for supplies until a week before school.
My favourite copy of A Tale of Two Cities was sitting open on my lap. I needed something to pass the time.
Crap. So much for not thinking about Sebastian. I gave him a copy of this book!
Whatever. This was my favourite book. I wasn't going to let him ruin it.
I tried not to think about him since the morning after. It was difficult but I made it through. Barely. Still, I'd be lying if I said the pain of his words and doubt didn't still linger within me.
I huffed, taking a sip of my coffee, trying to get rid of any thoughts of him.
I couldn't understand why it hurt so much. It wasn't like we dated or anything.
Well, whatever. Men can go to hell.
I wanted to keep reading my book but it didn't take long before I saw Natty and Imelda together. I waved them over, a huge smile breaking over my face.
I couldn't remember the last time I smiled since a month ago, really. It felt good.
"Y/n! Oh how good it is to see you," greeted Imelda. I stood up and embraced her tightly. "I almost got lost! I didn't know where this coffee shop was because I've never been here. Thank goodness Natty found me."
"Yes, she looked like a lost puppy. I felt horrible," said Natty, laughing.
"Good to see you, Natty." I smiled at her and hugged her tightly too. "Travel was alright, I assume?"
"More than alright! The stories I could tell you," exclaimed Imelda. "But that will have to wait for later when we shop! I'm rather excited, I've never been here before."
I laughed, admiring them both. "I've missed you two. Glad you could make it, Imelda."
Imelda Reyes and I didn't start fifth year in a great way. I thought she was too stuck up, a typical mean Slytherin. But by the end of the year, she became one of my closest friends. We had more in common than we thought, including that we would work hard to achieve what we wanted. Although I was outspoken, she was the more outspoken one of us. I loved her for it.
"Me too!" She looked me over, scanning my attire. "You're looking rather beautiful today, here to impress someone?" she teased.
"You're ridiculous. I'm doing this for me, leave me alone," I laughed.
