chapter 29 - sallow manorSebastian's Perspective
The carriage rattled as it rolled over uneven, pebbled terrain. The snow disappeared as soon as we entered the southern lands, a long ways past Feldcroft. Rain now pounded on the roof.
Christmas Eve was in two days, and we left Hogwarts this morning to go see Anne. We had been traveling for a few hours now.
We said goodbye to our friends—Poppy, Natty, Imelda, Amit, and Garreth—who were all traveling back home this morning. We exchanged presents and promised each other to open them on Christmas Eve, even if we were all distances apart.
My arm was propped on the carriage window, my lips slightly nibbling on my thumb and index finger as I watched the orange and green hills blur past, lost in my own thoughts.
"Sebastian? What are you thinking?"
I blinked away my haze, turning to Y/n who sat across from me, a soft smile on her lips. She wore her hair down as always, her dress attire more suited for warmer weather. Ominis was fast asleep on her shoulder.
My heart felt full watching both of my best friends come with me to Sallow Manor. I didn't think I could've done this by myself.
I forced a smile, trying not to lose myself in those soft, beautiful eyes of hers. "Just nervous. I haven't seen my sister in so long, Y/n."
She nodded. "She seems excited to see you. Ominis said so."
"I know, I know," I mumbled low, "I think I'm just scared of what she thinks of me after all I did last year."
Y/n reached out suddenly, placing her hand on top of mine, thumb caressing my knuckles. "And it's okay to be scared. But I have no doubt you and Anne will get back what you once lost. You love each other too much for that to happen, I just know it."
I relaxed, her kind demeanor washing over me. Her words always had the magic to heal my soul.
"Thank you, Y/n. Truly." I squeezed her hand before she leaned back in her seat again, Ominis stirring beside her.
"Always."
"Are you sure you won't get in trouble for this?" I asked.
She told me her parents sent her an owl demanding she comes home for the holidays, which worried me. But she insisted she had a way out of it so that she could accompany me and Ominis to go see Anne.
My sister had invited her too anyway, so Y/n refused to miss the chance of seeing Anne. She also insisted she could try using her ancient magic to see if anything had changed. Perhaps she could help Anne.
On the other hand, Ominis had no trouble coming with us, considering our houses were near each other. He was lucky enough that Marvolo and Morphina also had other obligations, off to travel somewhere else.
"It's fine, Sebastian," she sighed. "Let me worry about them."
"How could I not? I worry about you all the time, I can't help it."
Considering what had almost transpired between us a few weeks ago in the dark corners of the library, I couldn't help but feel troubled as to what path I may have just pulled her under.
We've tried avoiding each other at school since then, but every second of every day slowly chipped away at my soul.
She gave me an annoyed look. "If it makes you feel any better, my brother Alden is covering for me. And my parents have other holiday obligations to keep them occupied."
