chapter 58 - temptation

Y/n Gray

Y/n knew not of the summer days that passed, nor her seventh-year beginning in another lifetime—a lifetime in which she was walking through Hogwarts doors with her hands intertwined with the love of her life, finally sharing a free smile instead of the usual secret glances.

She knew only of despair and torment as she spent her months inside the fortress filled with screams of agony and torture.

Her body ached from the months spent on the mangled floor mattress. Sometimes her body felt so weak, she wouldn't even have the energy to pull herself up and plop herself into it, so she'd spend the night sleeping on the cold, damp floor instead.

Tonight was a rare night as she was able to crawl off the bare floor. The chains had made her wrists so raw, yet she could no longer feel pain after being used to it for months.

She let out a cold sigh of relief when her body hit the tattered sheets, placing her head on the mattress.

She did not even know of her birthday passing and the boy who spent his free days looking for her since she had been gone. She did not know of the present awaiting inside her drawer because the boy hoped he would be able to give it to her.

She did not know that summer has passed. Even as she escaped herself into a dream as she closed her eyes and imagined something that could have been.

Sixth Year - Summer

Y/n wore her best dress for Sebastian. He sent an owl asking if he could see her during the summer, and of course, she didn't hesitate to answer yes.

She didn't want a repeat of their summer after fifth year when they waited so long just to see each other. And when they finally did during her birthday, everything went to hell.

"It'll be perfect this time. You're fine. You'll be fine," Y/n told herself in the mirror, a big smile on her face.

She ran her hands down her white summer dress, and nervously tucked hair behind her ears.

"He's your boyfriend," she chuckled nervously. "What have you got to be nervous about? Pfttt."

She brushed her hair one last time for good measure, then scanned her pieces of jewelry for the best one.

"Hmmm," she hummed, eyes drifting over the many jewels she owned.

Then she laughed, picking up a bracelet. "Why do I even bother choosing? I'll always choose this one," she mumbled, clasping the strawberry charm bracelet around her wrist. "Oh! And maybe this." She put a dainty gold necklace on for more accent.

A knock came upon the door, and before Y/n could answer, her little brother peeked his head in.

"Someone's here for you," Theo winked.

Y/n gave him a smile and waved him off. "Yes, yes, I'll be right down! Give me a minute."

Theo gave a shake of his head and a chuckle before leaving Y/n to her own giddiness.

She moved to a floor-length mirror and scanned her white dress again, a bright smile on her face. She twirled, basking in the femininity and confidence oozing out of her skin.

And with one last smile to herself in the mirror, she finally exited her bedroom doors and left, running down the stairs with expert precision and gracefulness despite wearing heels, and into the courtyard.
