chapter 52 - borrowed time

Fury would be an understatement for what I was feeling as Marvolo Gaunt stood in place of Sebastian Sallow.

This was such an enchanting space he had created to extend our magical night, perhaps until the sun embraced the moon, so to have him absent from here...it shattered more than my heart.

Even with the string of lights flickering on the trees, and the candles littered on the forest floor, Marvolo sucked out all the light and happiness of this space.

I unstrapped my wand from my thigh buried under my skirts and pointed it at Marvolo, my hand shaking from seething indignation.

"What have you done?!" I roared, beginning to feel my ancient magic seep through my veins.

Morphina clicked her tongue. "This is what happens when you disobey," she said, pouting mockingly at me.

My chest heaved, anger pouring out of me. "What," I breathed, air escaping my lungs little by little and not enough to refill it in time, "have you done to him?!"

"Not to worry, you can see him again." Marvolo walked to me and crouched until he was at my height while my knees were on the ground. "If you bring me the wand."

"I already told you, I do not have it!" I boomed, struggling with the binds on my wrist.

"Do. Not. LIE TO ME," he growled, snatching my neck and squeezing until it hurt. "Funny thing about your friends? They're quite the talkers. Couldn't stop talking about the two of you."

My face fell at the realization. At this point, I could barely breathe. We had been so careful. Not many knew about us, and there was no way my friends would say anything unless...
