chapter 68 - out of the woods

Y/n's Perspective

"Ow! Sebastian, what the hell? Whatever happened to not wanting to hurt your girlfriend?" I complained, crawling until I could grasp my wand, which had rolled off to the side.

"I barely grazed you! Stop complaining, get up," he commanded.

Glaring at Sebastian with the force of a thousand daggers, I got up off the dusty Undercroft floor. He just casted Bombarda at me and I'd barely had time to dodge it, exhaustion cloaking my bones.

Fuck, I really need to work on my stamina again.

It was a random Saturday afternoon in October, and I've been working on my magic bit by bit at this point. I'd asked Sebastian to help me train because I had nothing better to do. I'd finished my school assignments early.

Sebastian stood there with a smirk on his face, my initial on a chain around his neck, and his black sleeves rolled up to his elbows, giving me a peek of his muscled arms.

"Confringo!" I sent the spell in his direction.

"Protego!" he blocked, then smirked at me putting his hands to the side. "This training is supposed to help your ancient magic, why don't you show me that?"

"Are you mad?! I can't hit you with my ancient magic!" I boomed across the dungeon.

He groaned, frustrated that I was frustrated. Ugh!!!

"You don't need to! But I need you to let it out, Y/n. Show me your ancient magic. I'm helping you here," Sebastian insisted, an annoyed look in his face. "What's the point of this training if you're not going to tap into your magic?"

I crossed my arms, frowning. I got what he was doing. He was trying to get me mad enough to let a spark of my ancient magic show. The destructive kind. I've always been able to access it, but I'd lost control of it again so it weakened.

But hells, I was too cautious. As much as I wanted to tap into the deep well of my ancient magic again, I couldn't hit him with it. That would be barbaric!

"This training is supposed to help with my control, Sebastian! Not the other way around—Glacius!" I cast without warning, successfully freezing his feet on the ground. "Stop making me angry."

He scoffed with a chuckle, smirking. "In my defense, getting you angry will help in training your control." He broke out of the ice and threw a basic cast my way, which I dodged.

"What do you mean?" I panted, wiping sweat off my forehead.
