The morning of the Halloween Dance
"No, please, don't do that!" I panicked, running to a group of Gryffindors who volunteered to put up Halloween decorations with me. "The enchantment won't last long, it's better to put that light on the floor or it will shatter."
The Gryffindors did as told, making me smile. "Thank you! Truly! Now, if you boys don't mind helping me set up those trees over there," I pointed to some black, barren tree decorations, "to spread around along the sides, so they won't be in the way on the dance floor. I can conjure up some more if needed, just let me know."
"Sure, Y/n!" said one of the Gryffindor boys enthusiastically.
Professor Weasley suddenly walked in, a proud look on her face as she scanned the room. "You are doing excellent, Miss Gray." She looked at me, smiling as she stopped in front of where I stood. "I need to commend you for taking the initiative with this. It is indeed remarkable and impressive."
"Thank you, Professor. And, of course, thank you for allowing me to do this," I said, a wide grin on my face.
She nodded. "Keep up the great work, Miss Gray. I shall leave you to it."
Professor Weasley left, leaving me to deal with the chaos of the Great Hall alone. A good chaos at that one.
I sighed, smiling as I scanned the Great Hall around me. I dare say the Halloween dance was looking fantastically, sinister so far, so I mentally patted my shoulder for a job well done.
It was still Saturday morning, but I had so much to do and set up before the actual dance tonight that I had to get up earlier than usual this morning. The decorations were almost done, thanks to Garreth and Natty convincing their housemates to help me, along with most of my Ravenclaws who were most happy to help (except Zenobia and Samantha).
In fact, all my friends were here right now, helping me decorate! Almost everyone.
Amit was at the Ravenclaw table, discussing with others and instructing them as I had instructed him. Garreth was outside decorating the entrance, and Natty was helping Ominis put up some banners and spooky wall decorations.
Sebastian's absence almost drowned out my optimism just now but I couldn't let it, so I put on a smile again, strolling over to Imelda and Poppy who were enchanting the pumpkins to move. The first years were more than happy to carve them last night, and they looked incredible!
"Doing alright so far, girls?" I asked, admiring the rows and rows of pumpkins they'd enchanted.
Poppy flicked her wand, sending some pumpkins to float and sit on tables. "So far, yes!" she gave me an excited smile, practically bouncing on her feet. "Tonight is going to be magical, Y/n! Just look at this place! You've done fantastic decorating."
I blushed. "Thank you, Poppy. But you all helped!"
"We wouldn't have done it without your creative mind, stop being so humble," Imelda chuckled.
"Flatterer," I said, smirking. "Anyway, I have to go check in with the others." I looked at the parchment in my hands which listed things I needed to do. "I need to double-check with the kitchen elves about food, and some drinks the Ravenclaws are bringing later."
