chapter 59 - invitation

(*Same day as the last chapter*)

Sebastian Sallow

Upon the sun's rising on the first of September, Sebastian Sallow wished he could have woken up in his dormitory with something to look forward to—her laugh, her smile, and the way she was always put together with her Ravenclaw robes while his own Slytherin robes were half undone.

He could barely get up from his bed knowing Y/n wouldn't be present in his classes.

He'd already gotten ready for the first day back in school, but he was delaying walking out of the dormitory doors. This year, he was only rooming with Ominis and Rowan. Seventh year had its perks, such as having fewer roommates.

Sebastian sighed, the mattress creaking under his weight as he sat upon it. He pinched the bridge of his nose and closed his eyes in an attempt to keep the tears at bay.

But it was useless. One single tear escaped his eye, full of sorrow and hurt at his failure for not being able to find her all throughout the summer.

A knock came from the door, making Sebastian hastily wipe his tear away, pretending like he was fine as usual.

"Yes?"

The door opened and Ominis walked in. "Sebastian, we'll be late for class," he answered. "Are you ready?"

Sebastian got up from his bed and strolled over to Ominis.

"Yeah," he sighed. "Sorry, I just uhm..."

"It's fine, Sebastian. You don't need to explain," Ominis said, his gaze full of understanding for his friend.

"Right, well," Sebastian cleared his throat, "let's go then."

Sebastian wasn't sure if he was ready to face reality and go about his days without her, to act like everything was fine while she was somewhere unsafe when she should've been spending her days in his arms.

He tried to forget it all. Even for a day. Because he knew Y/n wouldn't want that for him — to waste his days doing nothing but moping around.

Live for me. Don't just exist. Live.

She had told him that, and even though he wasn't himself when she said those words, he would keep it as a promise.

At least, he tried to.

But upon taking the Floo Flame into his first class of the year, right outside the Defense Against the Dark Arts classroom, memories hit him like a violent storm, wrecking his ship completely.

He stood there, frozen, tightly clutching the straps of his bag slung over his shoulder. One more step and he could step inside the classroom, but he couldn't.

How was he supposed to live when the very reason for his own breathing wasn't standing beside him?

Seventh year students passed him, chatting and giggling. Garreth, Natty, Poppy, Amit, Ominis, Imelda, and Anne passed him, but they knew better than to rush him into anything, so they let him stand there alone.

Sebastian rapidly blinked, trying to fight off his emotions. But memories were stronger.
