part 2
Strings music, paired with the melodic sounds of the pianoforte, did nothing to comfort me. I've always found solace in music, but I couldn't say the same right this very moment. That wasn't to say I didn't enjoy Ominis's company. Because I did.
Everyone stopped and stared as he guided me to the middle of the ballroom. My eyes only focused on Sebastian though, whose eyes were staring intently at us. At both of his best friends who were bound to marry someday.
Ominis squeezed my hand in understanding. "Fancy meeting you here, Y/n," remarked Ominis, low enough for just us to hear.
I chuckled a little. "Despite everything it's lovely to see you, Ominis. Who would've thought you and Sebastian would actually end up attending my birthday, huh?"
Gently, he put his hand on my lower back. I placed one hand on his shoulders, clutching the other with his free hand, our elbows out.
Ominis led me through the dance, his movements precise and graceful. I knew every step, but it felt nice to have him guide me.
It made sense Ominis knew how to dance, considering what kind of family we both were from.
"I'm sorry you're dragged into this, Ominis. And I'm sorry I didn't tell you anything about my family," I apologized.
He merely smiled, surprising me. "It's not your fault, Y/n. We were both dragged into this. But I do wonder why you never told us about your family," he said, eyebrows scrunched in question.
We've slowed our dance a little, a few others joining in.
I sighed. "I was told not to. No one outside our family line has ever know about Helena Ravenclaw's lover. Many knew she died without ever having a child, but she did. So, centuries later, here I am," I said in an almost sing-song voice, trying to lighten our mood. But it was more for my own sake really.
I faltered a little on the steps when I made eye contact with Sebastian across the sea of dancers.
I kept up with the dance, but my eyes were glued on him. Even as I told Ominis, "Anyway, my parents said knowledge is power. This secret legacy we've kept for centuries is a—uh," I stumbled on my words, still eyeing Sebastian as he weaved through the crowd. "It's a powerful knowledge to keep. Never really understood why, but I supposed my family uses it as leverage to maintain our social power."
"I can understand that. I've had to keep a few secrets for the sake of my family too. People like them can be difficult to disobey."
