Sebastian's Perspective
Moonlight streamed through the windows of Y/n's bedroom in our manor, bathing her skin with silver glow. I brushed hair away from her face, hoping my touch was enough to let her know, even in dreams, that I was right here.
Y/n has been in a state of sleep for a whole week, and every day that I woke up beside her, my hands grasping hers as I sat on a rickety chair, my heart sank deeper into the ground. Every day, I expected her to open her beautiful eyes, and for her lips to curl into the smile I've tattooed in my heart. But she never did.
I never left her bedside. I wasn't capable of it, and I couldn't do it. I did not want to do it.
The only times I left was when I needed to freshen myself in the bathroom. But all the other times, I stayed by her side. Our friends had to bring me food and water because I outright refused to leave.
Worried would be an understatement for what I was feeling. It felt dreadful, watching the love of your life lose her consciousness without any sign of her waking up any time soon.
"I need you to wake up, Y/n," I murmured, pressing my lips on her cold knuckles. "I miss you."
The night Gaunt Manor burnt down, we rushed home with Y/n in my arms. I'd immediately summoned for a healer, someone who could keep everything in confidence.
But it was no use. The healer couldn't figure out what was wrong with Y/n except for the fact she must have exhausted her magic too much. The healer left us, her parting words only telling us to "wait" and be "hopeful."
A knock came through the door, but before I could answer, it creaked open. I shifted in my seat and found Ominis peeking his head through.
"Anything?" he asked.
"No. Not yet," I said, my voice tight. I caressed her knuckles with my thumb.
Ominis sighed, walking in fully. He stood by the foot of the bed, and I could feel him giving me a concerned look.
"I can take over for a bit, Sebastian," he offered. "I promise when she wakes up, you'll be the first to know."
I gritted my teeth. "I'm not leaving, Ominis. I need to be the first person she sees when she wakes up. I want to be beside her when it happens."
I made it a point to say when and not if.
"You've been here for a whole week. You need to take a break."
"I'm not leaving her. Never again." The last words were softer than a wind's murmur. I wasn't even sure if Ominis heard them.
He nodded tightly, lips forming a thin line.
"I'll bring you dinner," he said by way of telling me he'll be back.
The door shut behind me, but I never took my eyes off Y/n.
She slept so peacefully, though I'd bet anything her mind was anything but.
She lived through unimaginable hell and it broke me to think that. Everything she did, she did for me and I felt so fucking guilty for it. I should have tried harder to stop her. I should have done a lot of things to prevent it all from happening.
