chapter 79 - the middle of starting over

Night before Graduation

Inside Sallow Manor, Anne pounded her fists outside my bedroom door, rattling the handles. "Y/n, come on, we'll be late! We need to be back at Hogwarts soon or we'll miss dinner."

"Yes, I'll be right down, Anne! Tell Sebastian to bring my notes, will you? I left them in the living room table," I responded, though my eyes were glued to the parchment I held in my hands, my lips nibbling on the feather quill as I contemplated the words I wanted to write.

Anne's footsteps faded outside my door.

Traces of summer air wafted through the opened balcony door where the moon glinted in beautiful silvers. I padded back and forth across the floor as I scribbled notes in haste, my hand smeared in ink, and one of my feet bare while the other was already in a boot. An idea struck me while I was getting ready in my Ravenclaw uniform, and then I dropped whatever I was doing because I had to note it down before I forgot about it.

Since NEWTs had passed a week ago, significant stress lifted off my shoulders, freeing my mind to flutter into other mental spaces that I used to heal damages left behind in my heart. The nightmares never truly left, but I coped by writing, turning them into something else.

I folded the piece of parchment and tucked it into my robe, then I dropped the quill on the desk. I hastened my movements to finish getting ready, leaving my room to go downstairs.

I found Sebastian, Anne and Ominis waiting impatiently for me. Sebastian eyed my ink-stained hands, and I gave him an apologetic shrug. I couldn't help it that ideas were constantly flowing in my head.

We stayed in Sallow twins' house over the weekend as a small getaway right after NEWTs exams. We all needed quiet and a breather. I even managed to do some painting yesterday, which I hadn't done in so long that I was convinced I'd forgotten.

Sebastian hung the painting in his room.

"Ready?" asked Sebastian, my school bag already on his shoulders.
