Chapter 31 - Afterglow

"You two are awfully quiet this morning," observed Ominis.

We were eating breakfast in the sunroom, the morning bright with golden rays from the sky.

I swallowed my food, trying to act casual and not at all reminiscing about last night.

Even though that was all I could think about at the moment! Dirty thoughts were consuming me and I couldn't help but ache for Sebastian's touch. So, I crossed my legs under the table, trying to contain such feelings.

I didn't know what we were, but we were definitely past friendship at this point. I had to cover my neck this morning by finding a dress with a high neckline to hide the marks he left on me last night.

Good thing Sebastian answered for me. I couldn't get a damned word out because I would be betraying our late-night session otherwise.

He said, "I didn't sleep much."

"Why?" asked Anne, sipping tea. "Was it the storm? It really was loud last night."

Sebastian answered, a smirk on his lips, "Had a rough night."

I coughed, choking on my toast. I drank water quickly to hide my blush as everyone's heads turned to me. Sebastian casually sipped his tea, sultry eyes finding me over the rim of his cup.

Ominis raised an eyebrow. "Why?"

"Research," Sebastian said, shrugging his shoulders. "Lots of research."

I blushed even harder at Sebastian's suggestive words.

"I don't suppose you've finally figured out that mysterious book you found?" asked Ominis.

I cleared my throat, finally getting the courage to speak, "We did actually. Our theories were right, it's Rowena's book. A single drop of my blood opened it since I'm a descendant."

"And the other books? Have you found anything useful?" wondered Anne.

I almost wanted to say, yes Anne, one spell was useful. Sebastian used it on me last night.

I bit my lip to keep from laughing. Sebastian seemed to catch on to my thinking because he shook his head at me while grinning, silent conversation exchanging between us.

"Not quite yet. But we'll keep looking tonight," Sebastian informed.
