chapter 48 - voices of reasonAfter our deadly adventures a few weeks ago, Ominis and Sebastian managed to convince the professors and headmaster to let Anne back to school in the middle of the school year.
I had to vouch for them and make up some excuse as to how her curse got lifted. I'd said it was a gradual healing process. That ever since I defeated Rookwood, the curse had been leaving her body bit by bit.
Anne Sallow had been the talk of the school since she got back three days ago. And she was lucky she wasn't here right now because I was getting fed up with the chatter behind me.
It was the morning after the Quidditch match between Slytherin and Hufflepuff, and suffice it to say, the mood has been nothing but tense since yesterday. But it was more because Sebastian, Imelda, and Constance's boyfriend, Rowan, were in a crummy mood because of how they lost their last game of the season.
It was the middle of April by now, and stress was high in the air with exams just lurking right around the corner. I supposed losing the Quidditch match amplified the stress for them and it has now curdled into a sour mood.
I was minding my own business at the Ravenclaw table as usual during our free period, eating another bowl of ice cream and reading my book. Constance was in front of me, but she was busy studying for an exam.
I hadn't even read a single passage from my book in the last ten minutes because the bickering Slytherins behind me were too distracting.
"I don't know if I can live with myself if Slytherin ends up third in the standings," Imelda muttered behind me.
I didn't need to look behind me to know Sebastian was giving Imelda an annoyed look when he said, "We're not third yet. Gryffindor and Ravenclaw still have a match. Let's hope Ravenclaw wins so we could be second at least."
I couldn't help but smile to myself at that. I'll make him proud when the game comes.
"Maybe if you had taken up the Seeker position again, we could've won!" Imelda told Sebastian.
"Hey!" Rowan grumbled. "Are you saying I suck at being Seeker?"
"Well..."
Rowan argued, "It's not my fault Aura was a damned good Seeker. That's just offensive, Imelda."
"No offense, Rowan, but Imelda might be right," added Sebastian.
I heard Ominis grunt, then shuffle from the Slytherin table over to our table. He placed his bag down in front of me and sat down. "I'm sick of their complaining," he said.
Constance looked up from her book. "So am I. Why do you think I'm not even paying attention to Rowan right now? He's been in a twisty mood since yesterday, it's affecting my studies."
I spooned a dollop of ice cream into my mouth. "Sebastian's been getting on my nerves too." And half for that reason was how much time he'd been spending with Samantha.
I get it. It was for the dance after the exams. But it didn't mean I wasn't allowed to feel the jealousy brewing inside of me.
Ominis sighed then tried reaching for my ice cream, and I would've gently whacked his hand away if today wasn't such a special occasion. So, I let him eat my ice cream. Good thing I had extras, so I slid another bowl over to me.
