chapter 57 - separation

Sebastian Sallow

That same night

Sebastian did not know how to traverse a world in which she was not in it. In a world in which she was gone. Out of reach. Out of sight. For he also did not know where she was.

On the night everything had gone to hell, Sebastian refused to leave the cottage sanctuary Y/n had sent him to. The one where his friends lingered as they tried to find ways to get him and Y/n out. Unfortunately, the enchanted barrier around Gray Manor had prevented them from doing anything.

Alden Gray had left before Sebastian reached the cottage. He only made sure Ominis and Anne got there safely. But after that, he left to keep his mother and younger brother safe wherever Y/n's father had taken them.

Inside the cottage by the crackling fire that did nothing to warm up Sebastian's cold heart from the absence of Y/n, he ignored his friends' pieces of advice insisting they go back home.

Amit and Imelda stood side by side near the window, Ominis and Anne by the couch. Garreth was leaning by the wall, while Natsai sat on the floor with Poppy.

"I'm going back," Sebastian said, his tone deadly even and low as he fixed the buttons on his new clothes. It was a simple green and brown gear, enough to protect him from small harm.

Ominis sighed by the couch. "Sebastian, there is no point. We do not know where she is, you'll only get yourself killed."

"Ominis is right. It wouldn't be safe," Anne agreed.

"She's not safe!" Sebastian snapped. "So, don't you dare tell me not to go looking for her because it's not safe. I do not care. I care only for her!"

"Do you even know if she's still there?" Garreth asked, an annoyed tone to his voice. Annoyed at the fact his friend was not listening to them and was being irrational.

Sebastian faltered, his hand pausing at the strap of his glove.

He recalled how Y/n had used her ancient magic to block out his memories when the Aurors were about to invade his head. He knew because he felt it. Her ancient magic.

Sebastian told his friends what he knew and the possibility that Y/n must have been sent to Azkaban. The Aurors were going to arrest her before he stepped in and dragged her away from that hellish place.

Sebastian thought there must be a small chance she was still at Gray Manor and that they hadn't taken her away yet. He recalled how Y/n mentioned making a deal with Marvolo and she didn't need to say the word to figure out it was an Unbreakable Vow.
