"Summer went away, still the yearning stays." -TS

chapter 13 - friendship bracelets

The autumn breeze streamed through the opened tall windows of the Ravenclaw Common Room, amplifying the colour of the blue carpets dotted with stars and moons. The domed ceiling washed the ethereal room in morning silver light, positively lifting my mood as I lounged in one of the single couches.

I moved the seat closer to the window so I could face the wonder beyond Hogwarts. Sometimes, all you could do in the morning was to contemplate life. Until class started anyway.

I sighed heavily, letting the fresh autumn breeze caress my face, making my loose hair dance behind me. I brought my knees to my chest and embraced them, resting my chin on top.

The common room was empty. It was still too early and classes weren't starting for another three hours. I was still in my sweater and pyjamas.

I couldn't sleep last night. A nightmare plagued me that I couldn't bring myself to recall in full detail.

The nightmare were the events of the Repository. Except friends were with me, so everything and everyone I knew perished. I couldn't use my magic for some reason because I hadn't trained enough. I didn't push myself enough.

I shivered at the memory of what could have been in a different universe, at what could have happened had I not been capable of stopping Ranrok and Rookwood.

I spent most of last night upstairs in the Ravenclaw balcony, just staring in the distance and thinking. All I wanted in that moment, to help my consciousness from that nightmare, was to talk to Sebastian.

He was my friend. I used to tell him everything. I could talk to my girls but it wasn't the same. The girls would console me, but he would help me decipher the meaning of my dream. We'd probably spend hours doing it and having a laugh.

I contemplated talking to him again the whole night. I yearned to have what we had back. I thought about how I was ready to give him a chance to talk.

My pride was telling me no, and to wait for him to ask first. But the other part of me, the logical one, knew that I told him to stay away, so really, it wasn't like he was going to speak to me unless I initiated it first.

I'll let fate decide later.

Flapping wings in the distance had me perking up. Tikki landed on the windowsill not too long after, three sealed letters on her beak.

I gently took the letters and gave her a quick pet. As soon as she flew away, I heard chatter behind me, pausing me from opening the letters.

Samantha Dale and Zenobia Noke got up early. They were ready for class it seemed, seeing as how they were in uniforms already.

Samantha eyed me, as they sat on the couch a few paces away from me. "Well, good morning, Y/n," she greeted, a smug look on her face.

Zenobia mumbled a good morning too, giggling for some reason.

Now would be the perfect chance to throw her off our balcony if I was being honest. How dare she expose me to the whole school! Samantha too while I was at it.

"Good morning," I said to them both, casually, enough to be polite, ignoring the little devil on my shoulder.

"Not sneaking out this early to meet your Slytherin boys are you? Honestly, Y/n, share some for the rest of us. You can't possibly be that good in bed," she grinned, mocking me.
