chapter 70 - last chance

Sebastian's Perspective

Autumn leaves fell into place like puzzle pieces on the dirt path as we took the long way to Hogsmeade.

Y/n was feeling nostalgic, and she insisted we take a stroll together. Part of me still couldn't believe I could hold her hands in public in the way I could, not worrying about who would see.

Some Hogwarts students were making their way back from Hogsmeade, some also taking a walk to go there. The castle was beautiful from this view despite the gloomy skies, and yet, there was only her. I could not take my eyes off of her as we continued our stroll.

Y/n's eyes were still red-rimmed as she grinned softly, her hand tightening in mine.

"It's been two years since we first took a stroll to Hogsmeade together," she reminisced.

I sighed, my lips curling into a smile. "I wouldn't call it a stroll. We were more like... jogging?"

"Yeah, what was up with that? You were going so fast!" she laughed. "Oh! And you introduced me to lacewing flies over there."

"I don't suppose you brought a jar with you so we could catch some for fun?" My tone was playful.

"No. I haven't carried as many potion ingredients with me these days. Not like in fifth year."

It was funny how light my heart grew as we passed by those lacewing fly bushes. It was such a small moment shared between me and Y/n, and yet, it still felt significant because every moment led us to where we were now.

Y/n sighed, her face slightly falling. "You know... last year," she began, "I wish it had been you who took me to Hogsmeade instead."

My brows furrowed. "What do you mean?"

"I mean..." Y/n heaved out a sigh as if frustrated with herself. "It was my fault anyway. I'd said yes to Alexander asking me on a date-not-date thinking he had good intentions. Of course, I know he's on our side now but..." She stopped walking then turned to me, a frown on her face. "You know what candy he got me?"

I chuckled. "What?"

"Lemon! I don't recall what they were, but they were lemon-flavoured. Do you know I hate them? I gave them to Poppy because I couldn't eat them."

"Yes, actually. I knew very well you hated lemon-flavoured candies," I said, a smirk on my lips.

She groaned, continuing to walk and urging me to follow by our intertwined hands. "He tried his best, I supposed. Still, I couldn't help but wish you were there with me. I regret pushing you away so much."
