chapter 20 - twin flames and love affairs

It was finally Friday, which meant I get to have fun and relax later.

And go on a date-not-date with Alexander.

First, I had to get through Divination, which was frustrating me at the moment. But at least it was the one class I didn't have with Sebastian.

"Focus and let the crystal ball show its images to you," instructed Professor Onai.

Natty groaned beside me, making me chuckle quietly.

I leaned over and whispered, "Natty, if you hated this subject so much, why did you choose it as an elective?"

"I did not want to offend my mother. It's not so bad though, and I had no other interests this year," she whispered back.

I focused on the crystal ball perched on an intricate bronze stand again, watching the swirling smoke.

Sighing, I read my opened textbook again, reading over what we were supposed to look for.

We were studying the symbolism of elements and how they could represent our past, future, or present. Professor Onai said it depended on how the element would be shown.

The crystal ball was supposed to show us elementals of some sort. But I've been staring at it for half an hour and there has been nothing.

I raised my hand.

"Yes, Miss Gray?" Professor Onai asked, coming over to our table.

"I just wonder, Professor, if you've always known you were a Seer?"

She nodded. "As early as I could recall," she said, smiling. "As a child, there were things I felt and saw that no one else could."

I adjusted my sitting position, trying to get comfortable.

"What do you usually feel when you try to look at images?" I pointed at the crystal ball. "I'm having trouble. I can't see anything except smoke, Professor."

She thought for a moment, then said, looking at me with a softened gaze, smiling, "Clear your head, dear. And think about what it is you need right now. Not anything else. Start with that."

I nodded, smiling.

Professor Onai paced across the room to help another student.

"Natty has there been anything for you?"

She hummed, scanning her textbook, "I saw light, maybe sunlight? But I'm not sure that's an element. It does say here there are things that may come into light soon." She chuckled. "That's not very helpful."

I sighed, studying the crystal ball again.

I took Professor Onai'a advice and cleared my head of all problematic thoughts, proving to be harder than I thought.

I pushed aside thoughts of the marriage alliance, the threats, the burden that came with my ancient magic, and anything else causing stress in my life.

It was difficult but I tried my best.

The crystal ball started to transform, making me perk up in my seat.

Blue and orange lights started to flicker, forming two flames. The blue burned brighter than the other flame.

I flipped through my textbook quickly, looking for an answer. But there was none so I raised my hand again.
