Amidst the blaring alarms, Mike yelled, "It's too late!" He and the Harrington girl quickly moved past Bob, making their way down the hallway. As they turned the corner into the Byers' room, the duo suddenly halted in their tracks upon encountering Joyce.
The woman's voice was filled with confusion as she asked, "What's happening?" Her brown eyes, resembling liquid pools, grew larger as she gestured with her hands. "Under attack," Mike replied with a serious and steady tone, meeting her gaze with intensity.
With great tenderness, Joyce caressed the hair of Will and Eddie, displaying a kind smile as she observed their still forms and vacant gazes. The two teens leaned against the counters on the opposite side of the room, sifting through their thoughts for a solution.
Lily's hand slid involuntarily further up the smooth counter, coming to a halt when it encountered a glass container that clanged against her touch. The girl with supernatural abilities gently took hold of the container and lifted it to her eyes. Midazolam.
The raven-haired boy's eyes slid over as his head inclined in the girl's direction, a curious expression marring on his face. Mike contemplated out loud, "We need to put them to sleep" A realization sparked in his eyes and he glanced up at Joyce.
"What?" Joyce spoke with disapproval evident in her voice, as she turned her head sharply towards the Wheeler boy. "They're spies. If they know where we are, the shadow monster does too," Mike stated firmly, his voice laced with intensity as the words tumbled out of him.
Lily fully agreed with Mike's suggestion, acknowledging that it was indeed the sole option for their survival. She held onto the syringe and glass container with a firm grip, indicating her readiness to proceed.
"They're lying!"
"They killed those soldiers. They'll kill us too!"
"They're lying! They're lying! They're lying!" Will and Eddie repeated, more intense than the last, as their voices were rough with stress and fear as their stiff bodies fought the adults who gently restrained them.
The sound of gunshots echoed through the hallways behind the closed door, making everyone incline their heads in that direction before returning their attention to the screaming boys. "Will. Listen, listen. Do you know who I am?" The caramel-haired woman inquired sternly, Will's expression altered as he grew quiet and met the woman's soft, furtive gaze.
"Do you know who I am," Joyce repeated sharply as she held onto the boy's shoulders, her dirt-colored eyes intense. "You're..." The boy's eyes trembled as he trailed off, silent for a moment before continuing. "You're- You're mom"
Joyce's lip quivered, her rigid shoulders bowing down in defeat as the indulgent woman looked at Bob, who instantly met her dreadful gaze. "Hold him down" Joyce spoke referring to the Cooper boy, the man immediately complying.
