"What have I done?" Lily exclaimed, her voice thick with frustration as she ran her trembling fingers through her tangled hair, tugging at it slightly in a desperate attempt to process her emotions.

Her expression was drawn, and her shoulders slumped as she let out a shaky breath. She sank onto the couch, stretching out horizontally with her feet resting comfortably on Mike's lap, seeking solace in the familiar warmth of his presence.

The muted light of the room cast gentle shadows over her features, highlighting the furrow in her brow and the tension in her jaw. Her toes curled slightly, a silent gesture of anxiety, as she tried to ground herself amidst the storm of her thoughts.

"I just don't know how to make her forgive me. I couldn't even bring myself to tell her the truth!" Lily exclaimed, her voice trembling with frustration as she tangled her fingers tighter in her hair. Her nails scraped against her scalp, the sharp sting a poor distraction from the ache in her chest.

The tension in the air was palpable, as Lucas paced restlessly in front of the couch where Mike and Lily sat. His footsteps thudded a restless rhythm against the worn living room rug, shoulders hunched, fingers flexing uselessly at his sides as he racked his brain. The dim lamplight threw restless shadows across his face, deepening the crease between his brows as he searched desperately for some kind of plan that would win back the hearts of the girls who felt so distant now.

"You didn't do anything wrong, that's my whole point. You are the victim here. She's acting crazy! All girls are crazy," Lucas tried to reason with the Harrington girl, his voice firm but softening at the edges. Mike, sprawled on the other end of the couch, passed Lily a bag of chips without a word. She snatched it from him with more force than she meant to, the plastic crackling loudly in the quiet room, and began to eat. Each aggressive crunch filled the silence, a poor disguise for the way her jaw trembled and her eyes glistened with unshed tears.

A crooked floor lamp in the corner cast a weak, yellow glow over the living room, throwing Lucas's shadow long and warped along the wall. He ran a hand through his hair, fingers trembling just enough to betray how rattled he really was.

Mike, slouched on the other end of the couch with his elbows on his knees, passed Lily a bag of chips without looking at her, the plastic crinkling loudly in the quiet. She snatched it from him with more force than she intended, fingers digging into the bag as though it were something she could actually control. She tore it open and began to eat, shoving one chip after another into her mouth. Each sharp, aggressive crunch cut through the silence like glass underfoot, doing a poor job of masking the way her jaw trembled—or the way her eyes glistened, fixed on the floor as if she were afraid of what might spill out if she dared to look up.

Lily, taken aback, sat up straighter, her grey eyes narrowing into sharp slits, shooting daggers of disapproval in his direction. The tension in the air thickened as their contrasting approaches to conversation collided.
