Chapter 24

Nathaniel

"i'd be lying to you if I told you I knew much"
I was disappointed at his words. Petrov was a man who knew everything, the fact that he had nothing to give me on Ricardo left me with little hope.

"he's basically a fucking shadow" I shake my head.

"he disappeared as quick as he arrived, all I know is that he went to school with your father... and Evangeline's actually along with both your mothers" He grabbed my arm and pulled me close.
"just be careful Nate, nobody I know could cross your father, yet this fucker has multiple times"

I felt uneasy about what he was suggesting, "I know" I pat his shoulder, "but I can't just ignore him, not now"

He gave me a sad smile, "I wish I could give you more son... you're both far too young to be dealing with all of this"

"Nate!" Mila ran towards me.
We both turned around to face her. She seemed panicked and out of breath.

"this house is fucking huge" she grabbed onto me breathlessly.
"we need to go" she started pulling me towards the back.

"Mila what's wrong?" I look down at her completely confused

she continued pulling me, "Eva and this guy... look I don't know, just come on!"

"where?"

"outside"

"go and find the rest of them, but stay calm, we don't need others getting involved" I push her behind me.
She gave me a small nod as she walked away.

"i'm coming with you" Petrov was already heading outside.
"I was hoping you were" I breath out hoping to feel less sick.
I wasn't sure what I was about to walk out on but it wasn't going to end well.

We both quickly headed outside. It was pretty much empty except for the two dead guys that where once guarding the gate into the garden.

"Shit" Petrov swore under his breath.
My heart was racing as I continued to look around. I went one way and Petrov went the other.

I could just about hear voices from the back corner, next to the pool house. I made my way over, attempting to be as quiet as possible.
If this was who I thought it was, running up on him was only going to do more harm than good.

"I don't even know you" Evie cried.
As I turned around the corner, she came into my line of vision... so did he.
Her eyes met mine and soon enough he'd caught on that I was there.

"about time Nathaniel" a smirk grew on his face

"let her go" I slowly edge towards them

"stay back" he hissed at me. He moved over slightly, allowing me to see the gun that was pressing into her.
"I will kill her"

"what do you want?" I snap, keeping my own gun at his head. I wasn't hesitant to pull the trigger as she was far too close to him, I would risk hurting her even if I hit him directly.

"oh what do I want?" he retorted, "what do I fucking want?"

I stared at him, waiting for a moment of weakness on his behalf.
I could hear my brother calling for me but I had to ignore him.

"I want the last 25 years of my life back Nathaniel, I want what i'm owed" he pressed even further into her.

"there was enough money for all of us, but somehow all I received was a 10 year prison sentence" he spat his words at me like venom, "this is all that's fucking left of that fortune" he tugged at her necklace before moving down to the ring on her hand, "2 little diamonds worn by a little girl"
