Webs of Deceit

Chapter 5

Ghost told us the name of the man that attacked him, Jason Lin and he goes by Lin. Ghost also informed us of a deal with Lin that didn't go smoothly. Back at the station, I looked up Lin and discovered that he had a history of assaults and used to be a bouncer. Ghost warned us that Lin was a tough guy and does not care about cops who stand in his way. Lin protects the boss of the whole drug operation, but Ghost did not give us the name of the boss. For he has never met the boss in person and only had communications with the boss through Lin.

As Namjoon pulls up a bulletin board, we began to write down the timeline of this investigation. We created two sections of the information that we do have and the information that we need answers to. In our have section, we have the victims, the method of how they died, and their connection to Ghost. We have where the bodies were found. We have that Ghost was assaulted not long after the murders took place. We have a suspect that attacked Ghost, Lin. Amber's parents lied about the father of her children. Testing Ghost's DNA proves he was telling the truth about being the boys' father. As we are drawing the lines of each posted note with the information that we do have, we begin to work on the other side.

Namjoon: What do you think MM stands for?

Taehyung: It could be the name of the drug organization. What do you think the colors black and blue mean?

Namjoon: The colors?

Taehyung: Yes, both the colors of the drugs are white. Normally drugs are sold in clear bags. Yet the specific colors of the bags and the markings clearly are meant to stand out. What do you think?

Namjoon: I think it has to do with the leader of the organization. It may be the initials of the boss. The colors could be to let the people on the street know whose product they are using.

Taehyung: Could be. But Ghost wouldn't give us the name of the boss.

Namjoon: Ghost could be afraid that the boss will come after him. This time he won't survive.

Taehyung: That's understandable, but how did anyone know that Ghost had a family? Even the detectives in narcotics didn't know this information.

Namjoon: That is a good question. Jin is following up on that. But we are missing something here. The three murdered victims are members of Ghost's family. However, Ghost is still alive. Why is he alive and they are dead?

Taehyung: Maybe Ghost was supposed to die but lived to see another day. Someone from the organization must have been following Ghost when he is not selling drugs. (Namjoon nodding his head in agreement).

Namjoon: Yes, but it does bring up the question.

Taehyung: What?

Namjoon: The way they were murdered could be that the boss was sending a message to Ghost about the deal that went south. He was busted with 40 kilos. There were drugs found inside of the victims. Once the victims' names were released to the press; Ghost would have heard on the news or the streets about these murders. Making him aware that he is responsible for their deaths.

Taehyung: You are right, but Ghost did not know that his family was murdered until we told him at the hospital. (Namjoon nodding in agreement). Maybe Jin will be able to find out what happened with the deal that he was arrested for.

Namjoon: If there is a record of it, Jin will surely find it.

Taehyung: (Realizing a possible connection looking over the notes) Namjoon.

Namjoon: Yes.

Taehyung: What if the person who attacked Ghost is the same person that killed his family?

Namjoon: Huh?

Taehyung: Look here (grabbing the file on Lin) Lin has a history of assaults. Maybe Lin is the one who has been following Ghost and killed his family under the orders of the boss.

Namjoon: That is a good possibility, but there were no prints or even weapons found at the scene.

Taehyung: Right. But this could be the connection to the missing drugs in Ghost's case. The evidence went missing prior to the start of Ghost's trial. It could be possible that the drugs were stolen for Ghost to be freed and the boss could send Lin to send Ghost a message about messing up his business.

Namjoon: (Clapping his hands). That's great detective work! I will meet up with Jin and see if we can find Lin and bring him in for questioning.

Forty-five minutes after Namjoon left, Captain Min Yoongi called me with more information about the case after meeting with the Commissioner. The owner of the warehouse where the murdered victims were found is Ming Mason. However, there was a problem with the information. The problem was that was no record of Ming Mason and that the social security number on the paperwork belongs to Ghost. He also told me to contact the bank that handle the transactions and find out who bought the property and see if there was a photo of the person going into the bank.

I discovered that the warehouse was purchased eight months ago around the time of Ghost's trial where the evidence went missing. That cannot be a coincidence. (Taehyung's cell phone rings).
