Summary:

Charlie Spring has been out publicly since he was 13 years old. He was out to his sister when he was 10- It wasn't a big deal. He was out to his parents when he was 11, when he had finally figured out what he was- why he was different, and they were fine about it.

At school though, he wasn't out. Not to his friends, not to anyone. But then, in Year 9, he decided to tell Tao and Isaac. They were both supportive, and Isaac didn't seem that shocked- Tao did, but his face wasn't that different, it was just slightly disfigured. That went fine as well, all fine and dandy. Then, everyone else found out. He didn't know how they found out. It did piss him off though.

Because of all that, he couldn't truly embrace his queer identity. For years, he would just try to act more masculine, try to be more boy-ish. He tried to make it seem like he was like everyone else- that he was no different. For god's sake, he even joined the rugby team! Although, to be fair, he did join that because of a crush- who happens to be his boyfriend now. But still, he joined a rugby team. He tried his hardest to just be normal.

or; a one-shot where Charlie explores a bit of his queer identity :)

Work Text:
Charlie Spring has been out publicly since he was 13 years old. He was out to his sister when he was 10- he didn't understand he was gay, but he told his sister he found a boy cute then she had asked him if he was gay, and he shrugged his shoulders but told her he only finds boys cute. It wasn't a big deal. He was out to his parents when he was 11, when he had finally figured out what he was- why he was different, and they were fine. They didn't judge him, they didn't laugh or not believe him, they just accepted him. It was perfect. His coming out up until then had been perfect.

He didn't know how they found out, and for a while that fact annoyed him. It pissed him off so much. He didn't know how his life became a living hell- he didn't know who spread that, who made him hate himself so much. Now, he does know. On the trip to Paris, Tao had gotten him on the Pont des Arts bridge, and had admitted that it was him who got him outed. He didn't mean for any of it to happen, he felt so bad about it and Charlie just couldn't hate him.

It wasn't ideal, and he did feel a bit annoyed at Tao for a few minutes, but he knew that Tao didn't mean for it to hurt Charlie. He knew that he didn't know that it'd be like that, so he couldn't hate his best friend.

He tried his hardest to just be normal .

Now, he knows that he was always normal, and it was the other people who weren't. Normal people would not bully anyone because of a factor of their life, they wouldn't. Charlie Spring is like everyone else. He is normal, but he is different in ways too. Everyone's different, obviously, but is there even a normal? People are normal in their own ways, different and contrasting ways.
