Chapter Text
I do not own any of these characters- they were created by the incredible Alice Oseman who is our Queen! I apologize for any grammar errors- I do have a learning disability that makes it hard for me to remember more than the most basic grammar rules. I really hope you love the story I am creating for you! This is based ONLY on the TV series.The Bad Idea

{Nick POV}
For some people, realizing that you liked both genders was slow, like gentle waves on the shore coming in. For others it is like a bolt of lightning through your skull, shocking you to reality. And for even others it can be a mix of both, which is poetry in its own sense when it comes to those who are bisexual.
Looking back, Nick was never sure how he hadn't realized that he liked both guys and girls. People in online support groups said it was because they lived in a hetero-normative society, so that meant if you were attracted to both, you probably didn't realize it. That was comforting, but it still made it so much harder when he was figuring things out.
His first crush, now that he realized who he was, had been a boy in his class. Dark brown hair and blue eyes... he'd wanted to hang out with him so bad, but he was popular while Nick was just a shy little 7-year-old that barely spoke. In fact, he didn't want to be friends with that boy for long because he'd actually been a bully.
Then he met a boy while waiting for Santa and they'd hidden together. That boy also had dark hair, though it was curly, blueish-gray eyes and a laugh that just made his tummy warm and happy. They'd shared a cookie and his friend told him about his elephant of a grandmother. Nick knew he wanted to be friends with that boy forever. He'd cried for three days when his mum told him that she couldn't find him.
His next three crushes were girls, all with either dark hair, light eyes or both. He had a thing for David Tennant for the longest time, but was always sure it was because he wanted to be him and be with Rose on Doctor Who (or Martha, Martha really made his heart race almost as much as David Tennant).
At 12, he was hit with his biggest 'admiration' of a guy when he was sent to Rugby Summer Camp. The main instructor was tall and lanky, not like most rugby players. He had jet black curls, bright blue eyes, and legs that would not quit (Nick realized later on that it wasn't just hair and eyes, he was also a leg guy). Nick was obsessed with him. He wanted him to notice him, to smile at him, to tell him he was the best player. He worked harder than every boy there, basking in happiness when his instructor would ruffle his hair playfully and tell him what a good job he did. Nick wanted to go to the park with him, or the cinema maybe.
Then... camp ended and Nick never saw him again (which was probably for the best, the poor guy was 20 and had no idea that a 12-year-old was obsessed with him).
Day 1 of Year 9, Nick met Tara Jones and was instantly captivated. He nursed a long crush on her, they even called each other boyfriend and girlfriend. It all ended at a spring party when Nick finally got the courage to ask Tara if he could kiss her. She said yes but... it felt wrong. Like he was kissing a sister or a cousin or someone. Tara had a startled expression on her face and Nick had a feeling she didn't like the kiss either, though he wondered if he'd just done it wrong.
After that, he didn't really have any crushes for a couple years. There had been a girl when he was in Year 10 at David Uni that had dragged him off to snog, who had been pretty, but he really hadn't liked kissing her. Something about it felt predatory with her being so old and him just 14. Then the summer before Year 11, he'd made out with a girl who was visiting from America and for the first time understood what it was like to enjoy kissing someone.
