Summary:
Charlie is always cold nowadays, and walking to school on a freezing cold morning does nothing to help. Nick tries to convince him to take his jacket.
Notes:A week ago, when it was announced my state was going back into full lockdown, I borrowed the first Heartstopper from the library after wanting to read them for a while. A day later I finished Vol 1, and that afternoon I found it on Webcomic after my friend convinced me to download it.
Yesterday I finished it.
Today I'm writing this.
(It's also FREEZING COLD right now so I thought this prompt would be fitting. I'm very envious of all of you in the Northern Hemisphere!)
I had to google average temperatures in Kent for this. This one is set on a very cold day, so it's a little lower than average <3
Note - I wrote this pre tv show, but have added the tv show tag to attract other readers in the future :)
(See the end of the work for more notes.)Work Text:
Charlie was always cold.No matter what he did, how many layers he wore each day, how much tea he drank, how high he kept the heating, he was always cold. There was always that shiver going up his spine, chilling him to his core. There were always goosebumps doting his arms and legs.
He'd always gotten cold a lot easier than his siblings and parents, always been the first to complain about the slight chill in the wind and always the first to pull out the warmer clothes when winter started approaching, but now more than ever Charlie's sensitivity to the cold was raging. He was always cold. And not just cold. Freezing.
He supposed that was just part of anorexia, wasn't it? He'd been told that, both by the people at the hospital and Nick and his extensive research. He guessed it made sense, explained why he was colder so much more often than he used to, but lord, when they said he'd be a bit colder than usual, he didn't expect it to be this bad.
It being the middle of winter also wasn't helping. Not with his geographical location.
That morning he'd woken up shivering despite his thick pyjamas, a hoodie that totally wasn't Nick's and the pile of blankets he'd buried himself under. From the corner of his room, he heard air zooming through his vent, telling him the heater was in fact, on, but still, he was freezing. That shiver had settled in his spine, and certainly wasn't planning on leaving any time soon.
Tucking his hand into the too big sleeve of Nick's hoodie like a glove, he reached to his bedside table for his phone. He bypassed the text left from Nick, he'd respond in a second, and went straight to the weather app, giving an involuntary shiver when he read how cold it actually was.
Zero degrees was not okay on a school morning. Nor any damn morning.
With a sigh and another shudder, he opened the text from Nick, grinning to himself like an idiot.
Nick
Good morning sunshine! A new day has arisen, it's time to get up! Are we still on for walking to school? <3Charlie
Of course, you dork! Good morning <3One thing that Charlie loved and hated about Nick was that he was such a morning person. He wasn't one of those ridiculous morning people that were instantly all smiles the second they opened their eyes, he was still a little grumpy in the morning, but he managed to wake up so quickly. It only took him twenty or so minutes to be fully awake and accustomed to the new morning, ready to take on the day, while it took Charlie almost his entire morning routine to even consider the day ahead. He envied Nick for being able to get up so easily, wishing he could do the same, but at the same time he loved it because most mornings he woke up to cheesy texts like that.
There were exceptions though when Charlie was too a morning person, or at least the shell of one. Like sleepovers. They both woke up pretty well on nights they had sleepovers.
