Charlie had barely gotten the door shut before he had Tara and Darcy tackling him into the wall, shouting their excitement and pride. He was grinning from ear to ear, laughing, and he couldn't deny how proud he was of himself. He'd shut the door in Harry Greene's face. Harry Greene, his own personal nightmare. He'd stood up to him. He'd done that.
All of Charlie's friends had piled onto the tackle now, shouting their own glee. Charlie playfully shoved them off and spotted Nick across the way, close and grinning. Charlie wished he could kiss him.
The second the thought crossed his mind, he felt slightly guilty. Nick wasn't ready for that. He didn't want that yet. And maybe he never would, and, fuck, that was fine, too. But in moments like these, Charlie wished he could celebrate with his boyfriend in his own way.
Slowly, his friends parted. Charlie tried to take the reprieve to catch his breath, but the second there was a clear path, Nick swooped in. He made himself fit into the little spot their friends had created, and he wrapped his arms tight around Charlie's middle. He was laughing, too, giddy and happy and proud. It made Charlie's heart soar.
Screw kisses. This was enough. Always, always enough.
Nick groaned as he absorbed Charlie into his trademark bear hug, where Charlie could gladly spend the rest of eternity. He had his arms around Nick's neck, his face tucked against his throat, giggling against his skin. This was enough. It was so, completely enough.
Nick tightened his grip and lifted Charlie up, pulling a yelp from Charlie's mouth. He spun them around, still laughing, his pride in Charlie practically oozing off him, making the secret couple glow in the middle of the excited party. Finally Nick put Charlie back on his feet. He leaned back, his face soft and open, his special smile aimed at Charlie, just like it always was. Charlie saw a determined glint in his eye. One of Nick's hands skated up Charlie's side and settled against his neck, thumb skimming across Charlie's jaw.
Oh.
Charlie wasn't sure if he'd hidden his glee well enough. He mustn't have, because Nick chuckled softly as he watched Charlie's face. Charlie decided he really didn't care. Nick's hand slipped back into Charlie's hair, tilting his head up. Then, Nick carefully fit their lips together, practised, so sweet.
Quickly, it became heated. Charlie sighed into Nick's mouth and leant into Nick's chest. He buried a hand in Nick's hair; Nick's hand tightened on his waist in reply. He took a few steps forward until Charlie's back hit the wall. Charlie gasped as Nick nipped at his bottom lip, and it occurred to Charlie that the room was very quiet, but very full of their classmates. With his head pressed against the wall, Charlie couldn't quite pull back and break the kiss himself, so he used his grip on Nick's hair to pull him away. Nick made a sound Charlie very desperately wanted to replicate, but Nick wrenched himself back. His dark eyes tracked over Charlie's face, his lips parted as he panted.
"Nick," Charlie said softly, panting, giggling. "We're in public."
Nick stared at Charlie for another second while he worked to understand his words. The fact that Charlie could do that to him, could make Nick forget everything except Charlie, was enough to make Charlie want to pull him back, audience be damned.
Finally, his words must have dawned on Nick, because he broke his gaze from Charlie. He turned, looking out at their very shocked classmates and very excited, if also very exasperated friends.
"Oh." He turned back to Charlie. "Oops."
His lips were back, making Charlie giggle into the kiss. This one was short, or at least significantly shorter than the last one. With great effort, Nick pulled himself away. He leant down, his mouth next to Charlie's ear, and whispered, "Want to go back to the room?"
He pulled back slightly so their eyes could meet. Charlie nodded, maybe a little too enthusiastically, but Nick didn't seem to mind. He took Charlie's hand and gently pulled him away from the wall. "Alright, see you later," he called over his shoulder to the party at large.
"Oi!" Tao called back. "Not on my bed!"
Nick turned to look over his shoulder, a glint in his eye that Charlie truly loved. "Your bed?" He asked. "Thanks, Tao!"
Charlie burst into laughter, happy to follow Nick out of the party. They never let go of one another, their hands always on each other's bodies until Nick playfully hauled Charlie over his shoulder and let him rearrange himself as he saw fit. They played and they flirted. And when they got back to their hotel room, they did not use Tao and Charlie's bed, even if Nick definitely seemed to consider it.
