Summary:

I was at a movie night at Tao's when Nick called me in tears. He said he'd go for a night out with his new rugby lads in Leeds and they said some homophobic things about me and him. I leave Tao's room and go outside to talk with Nick in private.
And then, there's this thought when Dad once said, that I'd knew when the moment is right. And yeah, that was the moment.
Work Text:
"Okay, what do we watch now?...No, we won't watch Moonlight again," I groan at Tao's comment on my favourite movie. It's my favourite movie and it's sad. I need something sad now, because I fucking miss Nick.

I won't see Nick very soon. In a bit more than 484,700 seconds (not that I've been counting). Okay, maybe I do. But long-distance just sucks....

"What do you think about Scream," Isaac asks. "It's not Halloween, Isaac. But we're gonna watch it then, won't we, Charlie?" "Pretty sure, Charlie will be up to Leeds with Nick then, Tao," Isaac says before I get to say something. "Uh, yeah," I say though I don't know. Nick and I didn't have made plans yet.

Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz.

I'm pretty sure that it's my phone, since it comes from my backpack. "Charlie, go and answer that or he'll bother us the whole night. Hundred percent, it's rugby king, Nick Nelson. Hurry up, we're having a movie night," Tao admits. "Thanks. But please stop calling him rugby king," I say before I get out of the room with my phone in my hand.

I head down the stairs and go in the empty sitting room where I sit down on the couch. My phone doesn't buzz anymore but I call Nick right back.

"Hi."

"H-hi," I hear how Nick tries to hide that he's crying. And he's breathing heavily, as well

"How's your first night out going?"

"Ch-Char, I-....," oh, we're getting a repetition of....please not, I'm not there and he's not here.

"Take some deep breaths, Nick. Inhale....exhale and again. Inhale....exhale." I try my best to avoid the panic attack and hear his breathing.

"Char, they're so m-mean. I never should've-, should've agreed to come with them," Nick sobs after his breathing is normal again.

"But you have to make some contacts, Nick. And also, why are they so mean? I mean, you're one of the popular rugby players," he snorts.

"I'm gonna quit rugby," Nick admits.

"Wh-what, why? You've always loved rugby."

"B-but my team. I-it's crap. Full of dicks."

"All of them?," no, definitely not. He's probably a bit overdramatic again.

"They tried to set me up with this girl, Valerie or so.  A-and I told them that I'm seeing someone but we're long-distance."

"I might've an idea where this is going, but keep on." I cross my fingers, please no biphobia or not taking a no for an answer again.

"They said that-....that I should stop making up excuses. And then I might freaked out and yelled, that they should shut up because they've no clue about my boyfriend and me."

"Is this building up to-"

"Yup, homophobia. And they were saying that rugby players aren't gay a-and when they are, that they should leave the team. I did something stupid after that."

"You didn't throw a punch, did you?," please don't let us have a repetition of that one time in the cinema with the rugby lads before I almost broke up with him.

"Well, I-I've said that I'm bi."

"Oh. That's not stupid, Nick."

"They said I could fuck V-Valerie behind your back, since I'm b-bi."

"To be honest, now I'm the one who wants to throw a punch at them."

A strange noise comes out of my phone. A mixture of a sob and a laugh, "god, I really shouldn't bother you with that since you're having a movie night today. Also, if you throw a punch at them, I want to throw one at someone, too."

"No, Nick. First, Tao said, I should answer and second, no."

"Tao? That's....impressive."

"He called Elle, last time...."

"Okay, now it makes sense."

"Nick, did they say something else?"

"That-, that I'm just gay or bi for you. B-because I couldn't get s-someone to be with m-me and now I f-feel obligated to stay w-with you."

"Do you? Stay with me because you feel obligated to stay with me."

"No, no. They say it's nothing serious. But it is. It's the most serious thing in my life."

"Then you need to show them."

"How?"

"You could marry me," I say before I can think of what I'm saying, "oh my god, I'm so embarrassing. Forget about that. Don't worry about what I said."

"I could marry you, Charles."

"Th-that just slipped out. I didn't mean to propose to you like that."

"I love it. It's authentic."

Oh my god, I'm so embarrassed. "Now that I've brought it up,....would you?"

"Are you asking me, to marry you, Charles."

"M-maybe."

"Yes. Yes, I do. I, Nicholas Luke Nelson also called Nick or Nicky admit that I want to marry you, Charles Francis Spring who's also called Charlie, Char, darling, sweeth-"

"Oh god, Nick."

"What. I do want to marry you, so...."

"Sure sure, ginger boy."

"It's strawberry blond, dunno how often I have to tell you that."

"Sap."

"Your sap and fiancé."

"You're so embarrassing, I can't do this anymore."

"And you love me for that."

"I do. And you love me for proposing like this."

"I love you in general, Char."

"I love you, too, in general, Freckles."

"Freckles? I like that one."

"You do? I had the idea when your mum showed me baby pictures of you earlier."

"She didn't show you....that"

"She did. That makes you a practically married couple."

"So you're saying that we're already married."

"No, but we should."

"So we're getting married."

"So we're getting married."

"We're so embarrassing, Charles."

"Yes, we are, Nicholas."

"Mum will cry if I tell her."

"We, Nick. We tell her. Not you or me."

"Lol, okay," and then it's quiet for a second, "you know what, Char? I'll go back in the club and tell them, we're engaged."

"Fuck, you do. I can tell Tao and Isaac, can't I?"

"Sure. But the others have to wait till we're together again. I have to kiss my fiancé before Darcy come with their questions."
