Work Text:
💙: Yesterday Charlie and I got engaged. Can you believe it? We made it, we'll marry each other. The first one, we're telling is my mum and so we stand here in front of my childhood house. "I'm in the kitchen, you want some tea?," Mum calls. I don't even have to look at Charlie, to know that he does, so I call, "yes, please."

"So, how are you two? Everything good in between you?," she asks.

"Um, actually, Mum, there's something we wanted to tell you," I say and take Charlie's hand. She looks at us, "so?" And then I take Charlie's hand and show it to her. The ring around his finger looks perfect. Like it always belonged there.

"Oh my god," she squeals and jumps. She's in tears as she hugs us both. "I always knew that you two would make it one day. I'm so happy of you."

But there's something else, that I've been thinking of, after I dreamed of our wedding last night. "Mum," I ask and she looks at me, her face still full of happy tears.

"Yes," she replies and looks at us.

"I wanted to ask you if you want to, like, walk me down the aisle. I-, I really don't want Dad to do that and so I decided-," but she interrupts me with,

"really? You'd really want your old mum to do that?"

"Of course, I do."

"Oh my god, yes I want to. I can't believe it."

"Good."

And then we sit down and talk about this and that. About the proposal, the wedding as well as normal stuff.

💛: It isn't until the next day that we walked home to my parents. What will they say about this?

"Hey Charlie, hey Nick, nice to see you two," Dad greets us at the door.

"Hi Dad," I give him a short hug as well as Mum, who comes out of the kitchen right now. "Hey Mum," she smiles brightly as I give her a hug, too. I see that she's trying to be better. To be not like her parents. I think she's a lot better. I mean, she's completely supportive and Tori once told me, that Mum's parents are homophobic. I haven't seen them for a long time, since Mum threw them out of our house a few years ago. But it's better to be without grandparents than to have grandparents who are homophobic. And I still have Dad's parents Abuelo and Abuela, so it's not like I have none. And the Nelson's also adopted me, since I've met Nellie and we got along, Nick once said.

"How are you two doing with uni and all that," Dad asks Nick. Since we got engaged, Nick lives it full out. His smile is brighter and his eyes sparkle more than ever.

"Oh, it's going great, thanks for asking."

"Yeah, it's really great," I say and Mum looks back and forth between us.

"Don't get me wrong but did something happen? You look really, incredibly happy, Charlie," I feel the tears welling up in my eyes. A few years ago she wouldn't even have noticed if I stopped eating.

"It did," I look at her, then show her the rings on Nick's and my finger.

"Oh my god," she carefully, a bit scared if I'd let her, she reaches out to hug me, "I'm so happy for you," she whispers in my ear.

"Tell me everything," she says, after she hugged Nick, too. And so, we have a three-hour talk with my parents, too.

💙: "You know, that you don't have to tell him, Nick," Charlie remembers me over and over again. He's right, David doesn't have to know but I honestly feel, like I should.
