Summary:
Nick slid himself under Charlie's blankets and wrapped his arms around the smaller boy. "How are you feeling?" he asked softly, his nose pressing into Charlie's temple.
"Better now that you're here," Charlie said. His headache was mostly gone but he wasn't about to tell Nick that. Not when there were snuggles to be had. He nestled into his boyfriend's strong rugby arms and let himself drift back to sleep.
Notes:TW for a brief mention of Charlie's struggle with food, stay safe!
Work Text:
Alt. 3. Pounding HeadacheSchool had just let out for the day and Charlie Spring couldn't have been happier about going home. It was a Friday, which meant he had the next two days off and he couldn't wait to climb into bed and stay there for the entire 48 hours. He'd had a pounding headache since lunch time, the kind only sleep and complete darkness can fix.
Tori kept giving him side glances while they rode the bus home, which he ignored, but had to acknowledge her when she blocked him from going in their front door.
"What?" Charlie asked, getting frustrated that she wouldn't let him go inside. It was freezing out.
"What's wrong?" she asked, staring him down until he answered her.
"I've got a headache," Charlie answered.
"And that's all?" Tori was overly observant and too protective for her own good, Charlie thought.
"That's all, promise. Now can I go inside?"
Tori stepped aside and let Charlie walk in, but followed close on his heels up the stairs and into his bedroom. He dropped his bag and flopped backwards onto his bed, draping his arm over his eyes to block out the light.
Charlie flinched when he felt a hand pushing its way between his arm and his forehead. "What are you doing?" he asked, propping himself up to glare at Tori.
"Just checking for fever. You're very pale."
"My head is killing me," Charlie said, lying back down.
"I'll make you some tea and bring up some paracetamol," she responded. She left the room in a hurry.
Charlie took his moment of alone time to change out of his school uniform and crawl under his blankets, pulling them up over his head to block out the lights.
He was almost asleep when Tori brought him his tea. "Sit up, I've turned out the lights," Tori said.
Charlie felt her sit by his feet. He pulled the blankets down slowly, checking to see how dark it really was in his bedroom. Seeing that there was only a faint glow coming in from around the curtains, he pulled the blanket down the rest of the way and pushed himself up to lean against the headboard.
Tori handed him a dose of the medicine and a bottle of water. "Drink that whole thing. Tea is here when you're ready for it," she told him. "Text me if you need anything else, yeah?"
"Thanks," Charlie said. He took the pills and drank some water. He was probably dehydrated, so he focused on finishing the bottle before moving on to the tea. When he could feel the paracetamol kicking in a bit, he pulled his phone out and sent a quick text to Nick.
hey, have a wicked headache. maybe you could come over tomorrow?🥺
Charlie only waited about 30 seconds for a reply.
oh no, my poor baby!!! of course i'll come over tomorrow! i hope you feel better soon❤️❤️❤️
Charlie smiled at his phone screen before sending back a few hearts and setting his phone down next to him. After he'd drunk most of the tea, he slid himself back under the blankets and fell asleep.
"Wake up, Charlie!"
Charlie cracked his eyes open, ready to kill whoever had woken him up.
Tori was standing next to his bed with a plate. "Eat something."
He rubbed at his eyes and pushed himself up on one elbow. He felt a little better than he had when he'd fallen asleep. The sledge hammering that had been going on in his brain before was more like tap dancing now, and the thought of looking at his phone screen didn't make him nauseated anymore.
"Thanks, Tori," he said as he took the plate from her. She knew exactly what foods to give him that were safe foods and he managed to eat all of it before curling back up under the blankets and falling back asleep.
Charlie next woke up to gentle fingers combing through his hair.
"Good morning, Char," Nick whispered.
Charlie immediately scooted over so that there was room for Nick in his tiny bed. "Snuggles, please," Charlie said, his voice coming out all garbled.
