Summary:

"So, what gave you the idea to practice with my favorite song tonight?" Nick sat, reaching a hand across the table to hold Charlie's.

"I dunno, I asked Sahar if I would be able to choose a song for our set list and she said yes. So I wanted to have a song dedicated to you."

Nick's eyes welled immediately. "You... chose the song for me?"

Or: Nick being absolutely smitten over his drummer boyfriend.

Work Text:
Nick was standing over some tomatoes, slicing and tossing them into the salad, preparing dinner, knowing Charlie was going to be ravenous after a long day of classes and work.

He's really gotten into cooking and baking since Charlie (with the assistance of Geoff) worked on gaining a more healthy relationship with food. Nick stopped his slicing at the thought of how much Charlie has grown, getting stronger everyday, despite sometimes having his bad days.

Charlie opening the door, waking into their shared flat, a groan already exerting from his throat snapping Nick out of his thoughts. "People are so annoying, why do they even exist?" He dropped his bag to the floor, resulting in Nick letting out a small chuckle.

"You know you're a person too, right?"

"Well I'm an exception seeing as I'm the most perfect person to exist. An angel on Earth, if you will." Charlie kicked off his shoes placing them on the perfectly placed rack near the door, thanking whatever god there is that he's finally back home since being out for what felt like a million days.

"What about me?" Nick pouted as he made his way over to him, "I'm a person, don't you like me?"

"No, I hate you, actually, why am I even with you?"

"I love you too." Nick smiled his heartwarming smile, leaning down to plant a soft, chaste kiss on his boyfriend's lips. "I'm still working on dinner, just finishing up." He placed his hands on Charlie's arms running them up and down in comfort.

Charlie almost immediately untensed under Nick's warm touch and smiled, "Okay. Do you mind if I go to the room for a bit? Nothing bad, I just want to get on the drums and prepare for the gig this weekend."

Charlie and Sahar joined a cover band since being at Leeds. They fairly quickly became quite a big deal around campus, though Charlie prefers to not make it a big thing.

"Of course, darling, go ahead. I'll let you know when everything is ready." Nick placed a kiss on Charlie's curls before he turned to go into their shared bedroom; and if Nick lightly slapped Charlie's ass as he walked away, well, that's his buisness.

🍂🍂🍂

Nick finished setting the table, making sure he didn't forget any utensils before heading over to the room to let him know dinners ready. The closer he got to the door, the louder Charlie's music and drumming became. A soft smile formed on Nick's face as he recognized the song that was playing.

He opened the door to immediately see Charlie at his drum set, playing a long to the song, his voice just coming through, singing along with the song wholeheartedly. His sleeves were rolled up over his shoulders, a slight sheen of sweat painting his arms, curls bouncing, as he's falling deeper and deeper into the music.

Nick couldn't help but lean against the doorframe and just watch him. The way Charlie sings, the way he twirls the drumstick between his fingers with one hand, still drumming with the other. God, Nick loves him so much.

He pulled out his phone pulling up his camera app, deciding to keep this side of Charlie as long as he can, recording him to savor the moment. He's not sure how long he's been standing there but he eventually found himself getting lost in the sound, singing softly along with Charlie, who still doesn't realize Nick is in the room with him, let alone being filmed.

Nick decides to prop the phone up on the night stand, making sure Charlie is still in view. He slowly makes his way over to stand behind him, placing his chin over Charlie's head, placing a kiss there in the process. Charlie, finally realizing he's got company smiles up at him, still drumming and singing along, the song eventually coming to an end.

"Hi." Nick smiles.

"Hi," Charlie's voice is soft, a lot less aggravated from when he first walked in. "Is dinner ready?"

"Yes, darling, but we might wanna start eating before it gets cold."

"Well, let's get started, then." Charlie stands from his stool, shoving Nick towards the bed.

"Charlie." Nick's face warmed. "I'm serious." He took Charlie's hand leading him to the kitchen.

This time, it was Charlie's turn to turn red, noticing Nick's phone. "Have you been filming me this whole time?"

Nick lets out a shy laugh, "You weren't really supposed to notice that." He quickly grabbed the phone, holding it above his head, "But it's mine forever." He ran out of the room, laughing before Charlie could process what was happening.

"Wha- Nick!" Charlie ran out after him, jumping onto his back. "Did you suddenly forget that I've outrun you on multiple occasions?"

"No, just wanted to make you smile." Nick walked them to the table and place Charlie down with a groan.

"I can't believe I'm dating an old man."

Nick feigned a gasp, "How dare you! I'm only a year older than you!"

"Whatever, Grandpa. Now feed me will you, I'm absolutely famished."

Nick stood up straight and saluted. "Sir, yes sir." He placed a helping of pasta and salad on Charlie's plate, as well as his own.

"Of course," Charlie gave a soft smile. "And I may or may not be singing it all on my own as well."

Nick almost sobbed on the spot, looking into Charlie's eyes. I love you, I love you, I love you.

"What are you thinking about, baby?" Charlie sat straight up, softly squeezing Nick's hand in his own.

"Just thinking about how much I love you. Which is a lot, by the way." Nick planted a kiss in between Charlie's knuckles.

"I love you too, just as much."

The two of them ate the rest of their dinner, talking about their day, their classes, all the people that pissed Charlie off earlier today.

And if they happened to have some special dessert in their bedroom with 'Always You' blasting on repeat, that's between them and God.
